Reflections for Police Officer William Coleman Cook

In this seemingly never ending battle of violence we witness with our own two eyes those who genuinely care to preserve and protect the public interest. Your supremely valiant work, Officer Cook, must not and will never be forgotten. It was your honesty, integrity and dignity which blazed a trail for other comrades to follow after. We salute your bravery, maturity and leadership that enabled you to stay safe and to keep the peace and togetherness of a Dade County community yearning for it. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Yesterday, I saw a picture of your beloved Karen. She had to be a very wonderful woman and adored wife if only God had granted you more years. Your legacy has surrounded your loved ones and those who worked alongside of you doing battle over evil.

Like yourself, Officer Cook, I too come across all kinds of folks from different backgrounds, you just try to stay patient and loyal to each.Your days, afternoons and evenings spent as a police officer were the most happiest of your life. Violence that takes the lives of our bravest public servants can never tarnish their uniforms and badges wore with honor and dignity. Crime in the end does not pay and one day it will be your shining soul that obliterates this monster we brand as wickedness. Your steady and prolific work ethic allowed you to be successful. There was humbly more left to achieve. That assignment or role now falls squarely on your family members and comrades who have since taken over your watch. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. We honor your supreme service to all Dade County residents by helping others to maintain the peace and freedom you tried to instill in all mankind. Your devotion and faith never wavered. Your responses will only absolute and astute as was your diligence and keen vision, wisdom and leadership capabilities. You dignified your department, Officer Cook, just by your bright smile and persevering nature, yet a man a gentleman with a calming voice of reason and positive influence. That maturity has been noticeably absent from your ranks all these years later, yet not forgotten. It tackled all situations. The partners you paired together with had to be extremely grateful.

Happiness helps push away greed and envy. Better to be zealous in all your efforts than display jealousy. Police officers have a hard enough time getting their hands on a perplexing problem without some hidden outside force maneuvering its ugliness into the dilemma. You injected, Officer Cook, your compassion, honesty and dignity into all phases of your daily life and police career, one headed for greatness if not for the insane violence that ended your life. Life has real meaning and because of its preciousness it must be valued as sacred. You are sure to remain special and treasured, adored by your loving family at home and those who went out on patrol each day with you to prevent further uprisings. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. A life of integrity. A humbly heroic legend of conviction, character and courage to stay embedded in our hearts and minds forever.

To defend one's honor takes special individuals who are oriented in performing their tasks in an honest and dignified way. Dade County and its community relies on the resourcefulness of each officer to lead and to live a life of humbleness and integrity. You go for a stroll, you think, you wonder and you come back to your original starting point. You started your police career, Officer Cook, over forty-three years ago, as I have stated numerous times it took its genesis from your upbringing by your adored and beloved parents in North Miami Beach, Florida. From there the values and principles that were instilled within you stayed as a motivational tool for your sage usage of them when protecting and serving the public interest. Your intelligence, diligence and decency shadowed you as you kept up the peace process and the healthy enhancements of all mankind. Cherished, respected and saluted for having the courage and bravery to act accordingly, you'll not be forgotten. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Your dedication and determination to stop wickedness as made your legacy that much more heroic. Your life and professional choice was heroic as was how you donned your uniform and badge of strength and character.

The privilege to work hard to become a police professional is something not just handed out like candy. It is not just given to everyone. Its strengths and rewards await those who are loyally humble enough to perform their assignments promptly and properly. You wore your uniform, Officer Cook, proudly and honorably. It was your nature as it should be with all officers to act with care, integrity and dignity. This is not a broken record. It's the fact that all who serve and protect the public safety are supposed to carry on with morals and principles as they are held to a higher standard than most. You'll be remembered and saluted forever, Officer Cook, for having the energy to correct what needed to be fixed and for uplifting the downtrodden. One never overlooks a man's unwavering courage to sacrifice in order for enhancement and decency to continue its journeys going forward. Your soul and its spirit my neighbor, friend and hero are as clear as your heroic legacy. Pristine and as persevering, diligent and devoted to the calls of duty. Your place now is high above in God's heavenly shelter where no hurt will ever come your way again. You were a good man. A gentleman of respect and reverence. A blessing and Godsend to all your family, friends and colleagues who proudly wear their uniforms and badges as you faithfully did. Rest in peace.

I'll take endeavor and desire over malfeasance and malcontents. All police departments function under the blankets of ethical conduct, honorable and dignified men and women who are the brave and valiant heroes and heroines of our time. They patrol as you patrolled Dade County, Officer Cook, with zeal, class and decency. One can never forget you giving your life and career so integrity and ingenuity can make a proper turn around the block. Those corners were well canvassed by yourself, Officer Cook and your fellow comrades who respected and admired your quality of courage, commitment and character. That word in any profession or choice of endeavor seems at times to get lost in the transition from violence to peace, unity and liberty. You secured the hope of all mankind with your spirit of passion, compassion and the humility necessary to function adequately at all moments. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Take time to make time. Take a moment to recline. After that and when you catch your breath the tasks at hand begin. They begin to challenge the most moral and honest of public servants. They can torment the most physically talented of heroes and heroines. They can blow the cap right off your head. The winds blows dirt into your eyes making sight a problem. Nothing could distract you, Officer Cook, from your appointed rounds around Dade County. Its people felt the relief you provided. Quarrels were settled. Disturbances were dissolved. Troubles were resolved and dignity, grace and integrity were given back to those in line waiting for a helping hand. What we can state with a solemn affirmation is that you were humble and humane, brave and bold, committed to quality and strength in character to leave a long and eternal legacy for all mankind to take notice of. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Admired and beloved. Treasured and taciturn. Yet, when the calls came there you were honorably and faithfully discharging all of your professional obligations, Officer Cook. When integrity, dignity and intuition meet at the very same intersection, something favorable has to happen. Twenty-five years spent helping others with outstanding results to match. Whenever I read Chief Bowlin's reflection of you, it only makes me think how valued and cherished you were as an officer. You saved your colleagues' lives and those of the civilians who were caught in the heat of that domestic battle. When things got hot, you were to cool people down. Talking sensibly, calmly and rationally usually helps. You did all you could, God needed yo u more for His missions, you'll not be forgotten. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Humanity and humility to accomplish something so precious in life leaves one to only think about what more one could accomplish if God decides to grant us more time on this Earth. If God could have given you more time, Officer Cook, the flames of dignity, integrity and honor would never be extinguished. For you would have taken the opportunities that you relished to share this with others. Twenty-five tears of caring, concern and compassion, all because of your passion to want to make a difference. That change is still enhancing the Dade Count area where you were beloved and admired. Admiration and respect for a uniform and badge befitting a hero of humbleness. If some of us could even picture a man doing what he always wanted to do and fulfilling our needs with the greatest affection for everyone no matter who they were. To serve and to protect then takes on a more substantial meaning. When duty calls, Officer Cook, you never ran. You faced people and spoke what needed to be communicated and evil was faced in a similar manner. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. If violence and hate could ever cease, police officers and their roles would be lessened a bit. One thing that cannot let up or be surrendered and that staying honest, having dignity and carrying yourself with a stellar integrity. Police work is never easy as it always presents it a challenge to the most skilled and sophisticated men and women of heroic capacity. When our loved ones and friends place themselves in jeopardy to save us how much more can we be thankful? Placing your community ahead of your own priorities and agenda, Officer Cook, was the only way to make an impact and that was felt from day one of your professional career. With your eyes and ears attuned to the needs of Dade County and for the ideas of peace and prosperity to continue its march on, your humbleness, your honesty, dignity, integrity and devotion were put to a major test. For the love of God, for the everlasting faithfulness, resolve and boldness to act upon a major domestic problem, there you were cherished and revered by all for not letting doubt nor reservation to creep into your thought process. Just fair and simple actions of heroic proportions that have carried over today and kept the chains of enhancement from breaking apart. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero, shielding us from harm, you now walk that fine line in God's enchanted shelter up above. Nothing will ever hurt you again, your beautiful spirit flies free unencumbered from misery, pain and the anguish we feel over your tragic loss, one that has left an indelible impact upon everyone, Officer Cook.this much is clear, your missions were well developed and yet there was more left for you to achieve. Hung juries cop killers acquitted by juries blinded by the truth of overwhelming evidence, testimony gone awry. Something so horrible, so callous, so brazen, so heinous and incomprehensible, it leaves one dumbfounded to the point of agony. Your days spent as a police officer, Officer Cook, were the foundations and cornerstones of a happy and hearty life well spent and well placed by humility, dignity and integrity with honesty draped all over your uniform and badge. The young man, a troubled fellow was finally shot and killed by another comrade in arms, Detective Dan Blocker. But it was your heroic act of courage, the strength of your commitment to serve and top protect all citizens of Dade County, Officer cook, keeping alive the unity, liberty and peace that has your colleagues, friends and beloved family members saluting your memory. One man's dream, an entire nation's superior public servant to all. A sure legacy of love and devotion, desire, dedication and sheer determination to perform outstandingly at all times. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero, your unwavering and undying spirit of compassion, the passion to possess leadership capabilities beyond what is required from all men and women serving bravely and to do so in a calming and influencing manner certainly deserves our heartfelt gratitude. You won't ever be forgotten, Officer Cook.

In school there used to be a test of the Emergency Broadcast System, this was only a test. Police officers along with all brave and honestly loyal servants face tests each day. There is no let up, no slacking off. One must be ready and primed to battle any source of evil. In life we face what seems to be insurmountable challenges, onuses, burdens and tasks too difficult to accomplish. If at least we live a respectful life of honesty, dignity and integrity our ships can float properly, our cars we drive to motor around society and its violence can stay in the right lane correctly and the planes we fly in to view mother nature at her finest of beauties we can enjoy its pleasures. Police officers would love it where no violence crops up, no officer is either injured or taken suddenly from their loved ones in the line of duty. Your were a staunch supporter, Officer Cook, who served the public in a brave manner and let his vision and leadership save the unity and peace of all Dade County residents. You will always be saluted and admired by friends and comrades who too faced these tall tasks. You were fiercely loyal and vigilant and your humble heroic legacy of character and courage in conviction to perform excellently and with a civic pride like no other will never be forgotten. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. One day we pray that wickedness is destroyed and prosperity is celebrated by all.
