One never knows when that day of reckoning will arrive, so we should prepare. Take precautions. And like all loyal, honorable and intelligent police officers do, they work feverishly and firmly to get things accomplished promptly and with a sense of urgency. All tasks they respond to are important and on May 16, 1979, you went to a call in Liberty City in Miami, Officer Cook, per you affirmation you went in a dignified manner to try and secure peace and unity. Domestic calls are among the most dangerous ones any valiant man or woman can answer, you dispatched your complete being that day, Officer Cook, in an attempt to keep a situation from escalating. You gave an outstanding effort saving your colleagues and the civilians who relied upon your ethics. You'll be remembered and honored forever for doing what we expect excellent people to do. Caring, concern and conviction defeat callousness and the wickedness that can come from it. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

I meant to say, Officer Cook, that life is so valuable and one must treat it with the utmost respect and dignity. Just as all police officers must act professionally and with honesty, the actions of all our brave public servants are being recorded by God for eternal posterity. You life and career, Officer Cook, was dictated by class and reverence. But, Dade County and its citizens can keep this thought in mind, you were always there for your comrades never running away from the heat of the battle. Crime doesn't pay. And yet this phrase does not make complete sense. Those courageous and resourceful souls who lay their lives down, it pays. They made the ultimate sacrifice as you did, Officer Cook, to ensure Dade County and its citizens complete and unrestricted liberties to travel about as they choose. Your gallantry and valor, honor, integrity and dignity have continued bringing the essential enhancements that will last forever. As you rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero, your commitment, character and the inner strength to see things to a peaceful conclusion will not be forgotten. To sustain any momentum, it took every ounce of your strength and will power, Officer Cook, to make right what we view as improper. Men, women and children all depended upon your perseverance and honesty to draws together as one. It was your integrity and dignity, valor and vision that was needed to steer wickedness away from Dade County. You steered and God by His divine power helped lead you through torment and tenuous moments. Now you have continued to be saluted and admired for your bravery and boldness to act intelligently and wisely to calm down the angered. You were the humble officer, Officer Cook, whose humanity and humility helped protect those who relied upon your honesty, dignity and supreme integrity. Police charge face to face into the throngs of evil. Freedom and unity will always be associated with your enhancements all completed with loyalty, care and faithfulness. The resolve and courage were accounted for and so was your unwavering commitment to excellence and pride. The hands of time represent the movements of your hands and legs, Officer Cook, to do the will of God. To concentrate and to be fastidiously loyal and fervent to all duties thrust your way and to be able to handle each one without a complaint, reservation or doubt, make no mistake, goes back to your honorable and humane character. It speaks of your heroic resolve, dignity and integrity that all officers must occupy if they are going to be able to serve and protect and to at least help them come home safely after their watch. A man's leadership and the burdens behind directing other colleagues through danger, that in of itself speaks to your legacy, my neighbor, friend and hero. It means you were and will always be saluted for having the innate vision and foresight to act as you did on May 16, 1979, you of course like a man, a gentleman with a kind heart and caring soul each and everyday. God doesn't take vacations. He continues to watch over us as does your beautiful soul shining like that awesomely bright smile behind our American flag. !973 was along time ago, no matter we don't forget nor overlook our beloved crime fighters who give of themselves to make peace, freedom and relevance matter again to all Dade County citizens. Rest in peace. The cement is dry. The handwriting is firmly written on the wall as is your humble name on the granite and marble walls here at Tropical Park in Miami and in our Nation's Capitol, Washington, D. C. at the Police Memorial. The hands, feet and lips of our brave men and women only speak and perform righteous acts of Our Creator. The ideals, the values we share among ourselves are some of the greatest gifts from heaven. It is in these values and ideals that we comport ourselves in the daily rituals, trials and tribulations of life. Life so value that we take it for granted at times. Never one to waste a moment or take anything for granted, Officer Cook, you viewed expression and choice as the endeavor with which you worked arduously to become an excellent police officer. Yesterday, while I was driving to Broward County to visit the graves of my beloved parents, I thought about you. I began sobbing like a baby, one inch cost you your young life with Karen and a professional career of dignity, integrity and honor. Yes, the pleasantries you brought not only to your family, your parents, sister and wife, but, what you personally delivered throughout Dade County and to its residents. The liberty. The unity. the calmness, the peace. The sanctity for all mankind to thrive as one. Yes, the words on your gravestone, "We Shall Be One," the connotation is awe inspiring if one stops and contemplates for a moment or two. Everything you meant to our society in terms of humility, bravery and perseverance can be directly traced back to your heroic lineage. It speaks action over talk. Politeness and courtesy over gossip. Moving and shaking over idleness. It rehashes reverence and resolve, loyalty and faithfulness over anything else. It means, Officer Cook, you will be respected and admired for performing in an outstanding manner befitting the uniform and badge of the Metro-Dade Police Department. No sidetracking. No shortcuts. Direct and front and center leadership, knowledge and vision to enhance the many lives who were your daily responsibility to serve and to protect. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. It's the valiant heroes and heroines like yourself whose character, commitment and convictions that ring loud and clear. That inch now stands for the ultimate sacrifice that you made, Officer Cook, for our missions of hope, goodwill and a shared optimism to faithfully march on as does time. It never stands still. To be honest and able to endeavor to perform the proper thing without the fear of being pulled or swayed in another direction, this is life. Officers have egos. Those who do acts that are deemed as proper are rewarded in one way by God. God gives us a blueprint as to how to manage our lives. He give us the intuition and vision to see clearly and ahead what may lie before us. Officer Cook, you were the truly humble and humane hero when it came to boldness and bravery. Acting rationally and calmly is better than going off the handle so to speak. Nothing is given to anyone. Police officers the total living and breathing professionals they must be have to stay honest, possess integrity and be dignified when dealing with the public at all times. That is why comrades have saluted your ingenuity, intellect and calming influence. Heroes and heroines legacies are maintained by the manner in which not only their loved ones carry on, but how those who have taken over their watches and how they act in a pressure packed environment. Cook, are not forgotten. How can you forget a loyal and honest public servant of integrity and dignity? You created and inspired wisdom and knowledge from your comrades, Officer Cook. Freedom is the capability to be in control as free people. To choose to accomplish whatever it may be. Nowadays, we seem to run after perception whatever that might be. You ran hard after evil, Officer Cook, tracking it down with honesty, dignity and integrity following in your shoes. Why tragedies befall us, why you were taken from your family and colleagues before your time, only God knows. Only Our Creator has those answers. When we make proper decisions as you did with your life and career, then when we are fully aware of the scope of our actions, then and only then can we think clearly and get our acts together. This is what our most esteemed public servants help us do, they serve and protect diligently and with an enhanced vigilance. You did this, Officer Cook. We offer them the unique opportunity to work within a framework of love and kindness, commitment and character in order for them to secure our freedoms properly and with a dogged determination. Your efforts, Officer Cook, as dignified and as devoted as they always were offered Dade County and its residents the relief they were looking for. Staying humble and humane, yet being there to answer whatever call came your way, it sure says a lot. Your character, courage and ingenuity all made up the very essence of your life and the watch you kept over all folks. Your loved ones have celebrated your life, your outstanding career and the missions you saw until the end. Endings can be tearful, yours was very tragic as you left this world too soon. Last night at our Passover meal I thought about you, Officer Cook and the meaning behind honesty, character and valor. Meanings take on new agenda for each individual. Your agenda was to serve and conquer fear in people and to keep togetherness and liberty rightfully standing side by side. A respected and cherished gentleman, you were an officer who discovered the notion that hard work and staying loyal and true to form does pay dividends and to Dade County folks those enhancements which represented your sacrifice, your commitment and your strength to battle on have never been forgotten. As the annual police memorial comes up on May 5, 2016, you will be saluted and so humbly honored for dignifying your uniform and badge worn proudly and very bravely. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. A gentle spirit with a kind and caring heart. You honored Our Creator by your noblest of actions not just on May 16, 1979, but all through your life, one that had much more left to achieve. Your missions were accomplished with alacrity and boldness to behold. The humility within your being will always be the cornerstone and foundation of your heroic character. But, you were aware of the tasks, big or small that greeted you each and everyday. We can state without doubt nor reservation that you took your ques from your loving and devoted parents. Unless you walk literally in someone's shoes you can't really feel the pain, torment and anguish they experience over losing a loved one. The hole is so wide and you as the years roll on by you hope and pray they are at least comforted in knowing their brave relative performed their tasks, humbly, with honor, dignity and integrity, grace personified navigating their every movement. The streets of Dade County that you protected and watched over were done so in courage, character and the strength of heart and mind directed by Our Lord who tries to see us through with our goals and dreams. No dreaming. Only the harsh reality that hard work pays dividends to those who persevere and are vigilant in all their endeavors. The Metro-Dade Police Department had a stellar and most respected police officer within their ranks, yourself, Officer Cook, the epitome of a humble and very passionate gentleman with a soft heart and a caring soul. Your soul, Officer Cook, continues its eternal quests in God's heavenly kingdom which is reserved for the most loyal and courageous of heroes. Be safe. Be well.be wise. Be smart. I guess when people go out of their homes one should be aware of their environment. Police officers all brave and bold in their commitments have to look, think and at any moment react to any given situation that may arise. Your parents, Officer Cook, your beloved wife, Karen, were the mainstays and people in your life and career who assisted you in whatever you needed to become a better individual. But, hard work and the choice you made to become a police officer could not have been any clearer. You wanted to be a public servant of which you were an outstanding gentleman, as well as a devout person who allowed God to navigate all your movements in and around Dade County. You will remain admired and cherished and will continue to be honored for your bravery and effort, one that never lacked. Police can take time off and yet their full concentration and attention to detail must never waver. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. As it has been noted, you were a very wise and intelligently mature man beyond your twenty-five years. People of all professions wear different uniforms. Letter carriers wear blue. Police officers wear uniforms of multi colors. Yet their unwavering actions are represented by how they comport themselves honorably and with an integrity that helps keep them straight down the pathways of righteous and relentless resolve. Your dignity, Officer Cook, was the driving force and motivating factor behind your supremely humble work. It was a love for your position and an acknowledgement that Dade County and its residents were going to be well served and vitally protected. We all have some sort of missions in life we want to accomplish, your bravery and courage, compassion and kindness will always be front and center. You were a humanely fearless warrior who put his life and career on the line to save people.
