Reflections for Police Officer William Coleman Cook
For honest and diligent police officers who display humility and passion for their profession, the calls of heroism ring like a bell. Heaven has a way of humbling one real fast. Our Creator does not fool around nor deal in simplicity. Though, you were a hero, Officer Cook, decency and integrity were the characteristics that helped you seal peace and unity throughout Dade County. Its streets, its residents, wherever you served and protected most vigilantly that where you humbleness and legacy forever live. Your fighting spirit lives on in the hopes and dreams of your family and colleagues whom you served alongside of with faithfulness and loyalty. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Officers who served with justice and fairness, who sacrifice have seats left in a higher place where no person could even begin to wonder. Peace and quiet as you, Officer Cook, as you patrol God's sacred venues. Nothing will harm you. Never will you be forgotten.

Police officers don't take curtain calls nor bows for they are humbly rewarded with achievement awards by their peers and direct supervisors. What does have to happen is once any officer hits the streets to serve and to patrol the public interest is that honesty and dignity through integrity must be out front. You had your priorities in order, Officer Cook and Dade County residents could feel the difference. Your colleagues could feel the sheer forces of loyalty and resolve rumbling through your station house. You'll never be forgotten for having common sense, character and commitment to guide you through your life and professional career of distinction and devotion. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Your legacy of valor and bravery ha sled those enhancements all these years after your sacrifice on behalf of mankind. Directing and distributing the peace and unity has kept civility tied together as one. Your spirit, Officer Cook, rests humbly in God's palms as it circles the heavens above.

The day starts with a loving hug and kiss, a hot cup of coffee or tea. On May 16, 1979, Officer Cook, a goodbye from Karen, stay safe, a phone call from work and prayers for your safe return home. God, Our Creator only knows the why part. Now a man of honesty, integrity and dignity serves His Lord by patrolling those sacred streets in heaven with other comrades who too made the ultimate sacrifice. We don't and may forever never know why you were taken at a young age with more vitality and fulfillment left in your soul. You had more to give back to Dade County and its residents. Hope, peace, the promise of enhancement, the satisfaction of knowing you performed earnestly, honorably and most professionally. The uniform and badge was the symbol of commitment to excellence, conviction to courage and valor. Most of all, that word again and again, character, you are not going out on patrol to serve, protect and to preserve if that is not in your fuel tank. Legacies are humble statements of one's life and their goals, dreams and aspirations, without dignity and humbleness to all humanity, nobility and gallantry have no meaning. It all meant something very unique, very special to a cherished human being such as yourself, Officer Cook. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Articulating your message without a genuine spirit doesn't carry the same weight as when it's spoken from the heart, your heart and soul, Officer Cook, were graciously poured into your tasks and the endeavors behind each navigation around the venues of a Dade County community where you were respected and treasured.

I know those who knew you, Officer Cook, would love to hug and embrace you today. Your family members and friends from all over the nation who knew your mission statement and the essential morality of decency and dignity, honor and integrity that went solely and for the sake of heaven and peace into each effort. A young man with a smile so wide, bravery and courage so far. They were the essence of why Dade County and its citizens may be permitted to live decent and thriving lives today. This is the synopsis of what heroism and humility are all about. It must first take shape in one's home and then as they grow up and become mature adults it carries over. Nine out of ten officers act professionally, it's sad that the one's who don't can cause kayos and possible problems within their departments and their ranks. Character, you cannot mention that symbol of what commitment and conviction mean when a person's conduct lacks this certain trait which enables that public servant to be able to function wisely and more efficiently. You were among the best officers of your time, Officer Cook, admired, astute and confident. All because of unwavering resolve, faith and resourcefulness to see you through your accomplishments. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Your legacy is the institution by which you constitution brought security and serenity to all mankind.

If facebook was around during your time, Officer Cook, those reaching out and befriending you would be amazing. You were a genuinely nice gentleman. You had an easy going spirit capable of doing wonderful things. But, integrity, honesty and dignity was central to you doing an outstanding job of preserving and serving the public interest of citizens in Dade County. The public demands its officers are held accountable by virtue of how they perform on a professional level. Your status was upheld by valor and bravery, conviction and class, so a decent and determined man like yourself, Officer Cook, sacrificed so enhancement may live on. May we live to continue your missions of mercy, compassion and hope. We must be devoted and keep the faith. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Your legacy has the character and blessings from God to help maintain the dignity of your family and colleagues in their pursuits in life and in whatever they choose to follow. Aspirations are not antiquated unless one rests on their laurels. Just as you had good morals, so too must we all have conduct that represents the fabric of our society.

The plights of people take them every way. How do you turn it around? Do more humble deeds, let action speak for itself. Situations may seem dire but with a little perseverance and a little gentle persuasion things can resolve themselves for the better. Sorrow and sadness are as much a part of life as are joy and happiness. For all brave and humble public servants, honesty and integrity are a part of their daily rituals. Once any officer clocks in to start their watch, God takes over the rest, navigating their patrols all over with dignity and humbleness following their every movement. Officer Cook, you were a man of resolve, resourcefulness, a man with a mission statement that was for all Dade County and its citizens to be safe and sound. You kept the peace and enhancement tied together. It's very sad that you are not here today to witness some of these most dynamic changes. You won't be forgotten. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Your legacy shines on as does your grit, gallantry and compassion.

The personification of what the realization is for this world to be at peace lies at the hands and feet of our beloved officers. The reality check is that all public servants must remain honest and don integrity wherever they serve and protect. You were the epitome of what class and character represented when you patrolled Dade County in search of unity and peace. You were well respected by colleagues and continue to be saluted for heroic and unwavering humility. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

There can be no resignation. No stagnating. No giving up and throwing in the towel or raising the white flag. You must stay the course of decorum and decency. Honor and integrity must fly their staffs high at all times. Dade County never flew under the radar when you patrolled, Officer Cook. It took your supremely heroic actions and superior conduct to get things right again. Colleagues have saluted your wisdom and visions of motivation and movement which have spread peace and eloquence throughout a community where you were looked up to in times of crisis. No better way to honor your name and accomplishments, Officer Cook, than for other officers to don their uniforms and badges proudly and a s humbly as yourself. Morale is amplified. Evil and terror are lessened. Your personality fit your professional role, one in which you carried eloquence and enhancement further than most.

The phrase only the good die young, I don't know its origins, I do know you were a well meaningful and honorable man, Officer Cook. Take your integrity, honesty and dignity and place it aside other heroes and heroines in the Dade County law enforcement community and we get the idea as to why you have been remembered as solemnly and as fondly. You stopped crime before it began and tried calming down those emotions may have spilled over. When tension and evil ran side by side, there you were, Officer Cook, present and fully accountable. The quietness, peace and unity is the direct result of unselfish commitment and unwavering courage. You remain admired and revered by all. A gentleman with a soft spirit, that now flies like a butterfly across our deep blue skies. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. In God's heavenly abode you now are charged with an important eternal mission to walk that sacred beat patrolling God's golden streets. Nothing will harm you again. Violence and evil will not be winners. Common sense and dignity for all humanity will triumph. You preserved so we can continue our conquests, Officer Cook. Peace and civility must match wits with the forces of wickedness. Twenty-five is still too young, you were admired by so many people, a true Godsend and a blessing to civilization. You continue to be missed greatly. Your absence can only make our hearts grow fonder of your esteem for comrades and those who loved you and the same you gave back to them.

The object of progression is to advance the positive forces that people feed off of. They felt important, cherished and want to accomplish their tasks through effort, diligence and honesty to the best of their abilities. Police officers through vigilance and respect engage in responsibilities that are difficult for most to achieve. You persevered, Officer Cook, as you were a considerate and honest man. Character builds strength of resolve and unwavering courage in times of danger. Unity and peace, too build the cornerstones of strength and its opportunities to better society. People get up and go to work and at times look for that so called quick fix. There are no band aids that can heal the wounds of this atrocity we brand as evil. All any God fearing and determined officer can do is keep fighting on, never relinquishing honor and integrity. You never let things obstruct your vision, Officer Cook, of what needed to be done in Dade County and its right for people to lead sound and productive lives. You'll always be accounted for as a hero so loyal and dedicated to the right causes. Your professionalism and profound resourcefulness won't be forgotten. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Justice one day for all people will be served on God's golden platter of righteousness and the dignity for all to live, breathe and to channel their emotions in an enhanced atmosphere. The anticipation is the participation of each individual in this peace process.

As my family gets ready to greet the Jewish New year next Sunday night, let us take the time to pray with all our hearts, all our souls and with all our might that the coming year will be filled with good health, peace and all the blessings we could ask for. we can request, depending on our tone of voice is what we may receive back. God was surely good to the Cook Family, even when sadness and tragedy beset you, your dad, who I was told passed suddenly. Don't know if he was ill or not, Justin told me, Officer Cook. Justin himself had an accident which left him wheelchair bound, he doesn't complain or want one to feel sorry for him. I feel bad for him. I believed he was studying for a Masters degree. You were not ill the day of May 16, 1979, when you said goodbye to Karen and started your shift. You were starting the day watch I believe. Circumstances take our angels of valor on missions of mercy, hope and faith that most would not want to go to. At least like most officers, they were well received and attended by an honest and righteous man of dignity and integrity. You will never ever be forgotten. Your successes in Dade County opened new doors and chapters of peace and enhancement for all residents. That Saturday, May 19, 1979, was going to be your first weekend off. A weekend of sadness and sorrow no one will forget nor comprehend why it happened. You were humble, gallant and valiant until the end. A mission finished, yet cut short by uncalled for and wanton violence by an evil young man, troubled as he already was. Very sad. No questioning your resolve, Officer Cook, you were an equitable and just gentleman with the spirit to match. Like the butterfly, it now flies higher and higher everyday. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Repentance, prayer and giving charity can avert an evil decree. Let us be inscribed and written up for a happy and blessed New Year. The ram's horn blown in synagogues summons one's heart to repent, to wept, its piercing sounds are meant to motivate and to arouse our good inclinations to be honorable and loyal to God's callings.

To command and to compromise take a very humble person who displays what is expected from each officer. Public service demands the highest level of due honesty, dignity and integrity from its angels of heroism and devotion. No shortcuts. No backing down and running away. You ran track perhaps in school, Officer Cook. You marched to the beat of your drums in high school. But, you never took a backseat unless you were riding with your parents. Dade County saw true humanity, that very uniquely desirable man of character, hope and encouragement performing an essential role keeping serenity where it belonged. Enhancement, education and their roles required that special feeling, that serene hands on attention, they got both from yourself, Officer Cook, a gem of a man. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. It is within the hearts of all that your spirit will bind us properly. It may bend, it will not break. It will only keep motivating us to do good deeds making society a richer place to thrive and to survive the unrest that tests our wills. It is a wake up signal by God to get moving.

We realize dealing with the public is not easy and yet we must comprehend somehow that our beloved law enforcement officers must travel down the paths of justice and peace. We pursue unity and quiet, they too look to stop the warpaths of violence. it is when terror takes an ugly bite out of peace that the entire structure may be compromised. Police at times must make deals if it will broker peace and freedom for all. You delivered on your affirmation, Officer Cook, you kept your word and spoke the plain truth of dignity, integrity and honesty. The message has been since passed down to future generations and to those brave enough to succeed a humane gentleman, a legend of his time. A hero of nobility and humility that reveals the truth persona behind their uniform and badge. All donned with due diligence and distinction. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

The wars of attrition are just now beginning. It's the moment to seize your resources of faith and decency, start climbing that mountain of hope looking for answers. We, the ordinary citizens look for that advantage that will take us to the promised land. It's a place where God's blessings of richness and grace occur. And it was in Dade County, a venue well known to you, Officer Cook, in which you started your career as a police officer. I believe it was started at Jackson Memorial Hospital near 836 and the courthouses. Since honor, decency and class were all a part of your humbleness and upbringing by two loving parents, then when you began your patrols you had special qualities riding along with you. Now thirty-seven years later comrades have saluted and honored you for your gallant actions to restore peace and security back where it rightfully belongs. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

If you let Our Creator steer your integrity, dignity and honesty down the prime path of equality, then liberty, peace and unity will represent all those who wait for its acceptance. You were a cherished and dependable man of action, hope and character. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.
