Reflections for Police Officer William Coleman Cook
If God could turn on or pull the switch to stop infamy and ignominious acts from occurring, then public servants probably would not be needed for service and protection. I'm sure you pulled a few citizens over, Officer Cook and wrote tickets for violations. It was said of my father that he was too nice to be a police officer. So were you, Officer Cook, a righteous man, a prince among those dignified and honorable professionals. You candor and demeanor when meshed with your integrity, dignity and honor provided more than a passing glimpse of why Dade County and its residents were able to live freely and peacefully. We cannot forget your valiant actions on May 16, 1979, they proved to be why you were so humble and yet so admired and special. You were a very decent and driven gentleman of faith and principles. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. We live soundly. We prosper justly. We can think wisely. If only we could have acted as you did, Officer Cook. Proficiency and tenacity take practice and patience. Exactly as you yourself conducted your personal and professional affairs. The mature and wise stand out from the crowd. better to get in step right away. Surely, before that crowd thins out. Good morals can and do become habit forming. Those who stray should take notice. You will be weeded out. Wickedness and its stench of evil deserves the clarity of those righteous women and men who endure in their pursuits.

We don't have all the answers and neither do our beloved public servants at times. Yet, they persevere and carry on bravely and most gallantly. If honor, dignity and integrity itself could solve all the problems of the world as we know it and try to live fruitfully, then perhaps we need to look to a higher more supreme power, Our Creator who blesses us and fortifies the efforts of His talented group of professionals. Law enforcement is not for the feeble, it's not for the faint of heart. It's mental and physical exacerbation taken to its fullest. You made Dade County more safe and less prone to violence, Officer Cook, a surely humble man of commitment, character and pride all blended within your uniform. Today, freedom and peace can take their leads from your unwavering and unselfish nobility, the service to humanity that you were guided to by God. A mission completed and yet those lingering questions remain. Why? Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. There can be no doubt regarding your resolve, loyalty and compassion. It was inbred within you and stayed with you, Officer Cook, throughout your life and career to fight those battles that needed to be taken care. Please observe those brave souls carrying on with the same amount of dignity and reverence as you endeavored to quash this enemy.

Officer Cook, you accomplished your mission on the front of evil. You persevered and Dade County could not be more grateful to you. A decent man with refined character and the honesty to humanely keep those persons calm during confrontational moments. A class gentleman of dignity and respect, no one was more kind and considerate than yourself. If bravery and valor could bring you back home today, your family would be as happy as anyone. The peace and unity so desired for its citizens was tapped into by your tenacity and integrity. Those powers were so great that everlasting enhancement has allowed the flow of dreams and aspirations of all mankind to continue its flow. A humble servant faithfully and loyally serving His Creator. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Your life's efforts, Officer Cook, have sealed your heroic legacy of hope and the praises of all for a job well done.

Hoping and wishing are just a part of life. The struggle to maintain precision takes effort, skill and the right kind of tools to succeed. You worked hard enough, Officer Cook to reach a level of fruition where trust was earned. It can never be given out like candy. Police work requires its loyal and honest servants to earn their keep, to reach for the stars. Things are never quite simple. Difficulty makes the endeavor more fulfilling for that person. Officer Cook, as I have said many times, your service to the people was of concern, class and devotion all steered by desire, faithfulness and integrity. An officer's officer. A friend and colleague who had the vision and leadership to humbly achieve with all your power and courage from within. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Evil took your physical being from those who loved and treasured you, it did not take your soul away for it shines brightly and flies with perseverance and prominence each and everyday. By our heroes like you, Officer Cook, the constellations are brighter and the rays of the sun burn much the same. Your soul is giving us its message. To keep the faith and to keep chipping away at taking wickedness off the streets. Badge#1664 did a yeoman like job of this for six years of dedicated and quality service to mankind.

I meant to say, Officer Cook, that it is sad, yet humble and enriching whenever I visit the Officer Down Memorial Page. Today would have been your sixty third birthday and so to honor a humane and beloved hero, my neighbor and friend who served and provided protection to all Dade County residents, I visited your grave and said a little prayer. You were a dignified and passionate man, a friend to all, cherished and admired by your peers for your bravery, character and the inner courage to fight a seemingly never ending battle over evil. It took your life and yet your soul still flies higher each day. God sees to that from His angelic men and women of valor whose legacies are sealed with the badges and uniforms you wore during your watches. Rest in peace. Officer Cook, you were the consummate professional who never gave up hope in the war to gain peace and unity for our freedoms to choose to live and to carry on your missions that were blessed with optimism and vigilance. You touched so many hearts, those lives succeed because of your sacrifice to enhance. Never forgotten. You were, Officer Cook, God's gift to our society, your family, department and many friends. You will be so honored and saluted for your humility to further the pride of humanity.

Skeptical and yet pragmatic. What it takes to make good solid officer is years of training, due vigilance and the honorable actions that fortify your every endeavor. Your watches must be dignified and that particular individual must have integrity from top to bottom. You possessed the necessary tools, Officer Cook, to do battle with an enemy so large and threatening that it demanded your full attention. Effort and energy triumphs over terror and turmoil. You made peace and unity a reality in Dade County for all its folks. And your gracious character and ingenuity won't ever be overlooked. Heroes and heroines are saluted not forgotten. Your heroism, Officer Cook, left a legacy to be treasured forever. You now can rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero among those comrades who too laid down their lives for realization and enhancement to take center stage. You were a humane and humble public servant, faithful and loyal until the very end. Officers at times must show cunning and resourcefulness in order to protect and preserve the general public and their property.

It's said and yet poignant when I visit this page of honor. To salute the life of a true hero. To reminisce regarding those moments when you patrolled the areas of Dade County and its citizens. To Dade County, you were their hero, Officer Cook, humble, beloved and admired for standing tall when adversity struck. Never flinching or batting an eye, you took control and it was through your personality, its honesty and integrity that took violence off the roads so people could achieve. People aspire. People hope and pray. You too did all that and were a faithfully loyal comrade to the other many colleagues in the Metro-Dade Police Department. They are the real heroes as you too are being saluted and honored for your righteousness and reverence. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Character will always be associated with your humble legacy. So will class, decency and devotion. From pure desire rests our enhancement all from your loving hands, feet and lips that imparted only the truth. What A Godsend and blessed gentleman. We choose to live. Life has its challenges and not every answer is right there at everyone's disposal. But then again, dignity and integrity must weigh in just as honesty must be summoned from one's own heart and lips. For as devout and loyal a gentleman as you were, Officer Cook, your calmness and compassion served you equally well. The residents of Dade County have spoken loud and clearly. They wanted dignity and peace to reign over torment and terror that violence distributes unfairly. You were one of the many heroes and heroines in Dade County, a large community marked by many different venues. Those who live want life to be as uncomplicated as possible. Your comrades have honored and saluted your bravery and valor which paved your navigation over our unity and liberty. Standing firm and committing to see justice carried out for all is any public servant's pride and creed. It must be so honored and taken seriously. You wore your uniform and badge, Officer Cook, with character, vigilance which has all validated your legacy of resolve forevermore. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. We cannot forget you nor the life and career you led by morals and the fabrics of fairness and hope for one another. Keep looking down on us, Officer Cook, with your beautiful smile and those angelic wings which take your soul around God's enchanted shelters above. Those sacred golden pavements are made much smoother by your very special eternal mission.

Futility is a product of failure. And failure cannot become a byproduct of a police officer's daily routine. To reach fruition which in turn may lead to a solution of a problem, an officer's honesty, integrity and dignity must travel down the trails of tenacity and discretion. Your successes in life and during your professional career, Officer Cook, were paved by the virtues of righteousness, perseverance and punctuality. Your service, preservation and protection of all Dade County and its citizens were made that much smoother by having the proper conduct and due diligence to attention and details. One never forgets a hero or heroine who is brave and yet possesses the correct character, commitment and conviction in order to overcome adversity and strife. For peace and unity to co-exist with each other it takes a total community and team effort with those that are of sound mind, physically able and contain the proper intellect, ingenuity and can articulate the very messages of freedom for all. Thank God, Officer Cook, you had this and were able to fulfill your missions in life and during your six year career built on the very foundations and cornerstones of fairness, firmness, faithfulness and loyalty to your colleagues who fought these same battles over violence with you. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

If the citizens understand the umbrellas by which police officers function, you can realize why honor and dignity are essential to one performing their job. The rigors and stress are reasons as to why most don't pursue this profession. Dade County was under your watchful eyes, Officer Cook and your demeanor was exactly what made you successful. A man on a mission of resolve who was respected by his comrades and saluted for courage and unselfish commitment. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. One's legacy to heroism is seen as the elixir to fighting crime. Violence must be weeded off our streets and replaced with sanity, peace and a healthy admiration for all mankind. Tact and tenacity must merge at the right moment for enhancement to take its rightful spot.

There was no swagger. No showboating when you patrolled, Officer Cook. You met your assignments willingly, nobly and most passionately. There was no turning and running away from this violence, its evil that has still taken charge of our world. You just have to stay the course, be honorable and dignified. The resolve and its ramifications will speak for themselves. So long as our public servants all heroes and heroines who look to shape the framework of their given communities keep peace and proper perspective, the world as we understand it to be will be free of obstacles that peace deserves. Your dedication and desire, Officer Cook, your faithfulness and determination all have been a part of your legacy of good character and moral fundamentals which have brought enhancement and education to the citizens of Dade County who have been yearning for serenity and its very special message discharged by a loyal and self-confident officer. A man of fabric whose ethics delivered only honor and respect to your department and to your peers who served wisely alongside of you. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. We pause and reflect back upon your life, Officer Cook, one filled humbly with quality service to humanity, one who took the time to listen and to battle wickedness as our savior. You were a welcome relief to the multitude of colleagues who looked to your leadership, ingenuity and positive influence. It shall be one. Those words on your gravestone have formulated the foundations for liberty and the aspirations of success and happiness to continue their journeys, so too does your beloved soul as it travels within God's skies. The sun, its rays and the moon, its brightness at night brings the picture into better focus. Clearer and more clarity.

We the public cannot ensure total safety. That is why we place our missions in life, our peace, our honor and reverence in the hands of duly sworn public servants whose humility and integrity help them find answers to the ailments of our society. You advice and sage wisdom, Officer Cook, came in handy while you were out patrolling and serving Dade County and its residents. Nothing is guaranteed, Nothing is a sure thing. But. one thing, actually quite a few things, you were humble, honest and most dependable when the circumstances dictated. When life mattered you were there to save lives. I meant to say, Officer Cook, that all officers must be extremely careful on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving. But, than again they must be cautious everyday no matter the circumstances. You were precise and prudent in all of your decisions, Officer Cook. A person's sure honesty and dignity generally will pave the trails to success. Dade County and its heroes are only guided with integrity and not bias which can distort the reality of one's resolve to come up with solutions to problems. Professional and practical. Prideful and mindful. Commitment and character. All the reasons as to why resourcefulness may take shape and fruition may be fulfilled. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

You navigated around Dade County, Officer Cook, with the fervent hope of serving and protecting our dignities. it can only occur when we the people along with those brave and courage souls who have our backs smartly and alertly act with precision and pride. Police must fly straight and avoid any kind of trouble. their devotion must be centered on those specific duties at hand. Dade County was your area, Officer Cook, it received your total support, dignity and integrity. There was never a time when you were lackadaisical. One can't be to perform and to function at an optimal level. If peace and unity is needed twenty four seven the total attention to detail can never be absent. A man's life and career are his length of days and though you were here for twenty-five years, a relatively short time, you made the most of your opportunities and aspirations. Dreams can come true with a little bit of fortune, by even more studious work and practice. Practice makes perfect. Lately, we in the United States have been experiencing the flames of violence perpetrated against decent and honest public servants. Criminals don't function with their glasses quite full and for the mayhem they commit, answers just are not easy to come by. In Dade County you had most solutions and resolutions to the problems that confronted the citizens, Officer Cook. By staying within the boundaries of common sense, rationale and dignity situations could be headed off before they festered into something more harmful. A careful person plans for things. A careless person dives right in not knowing full well the ramifications of their actions. By being committed, Officer Cook, the peace and quiet was realized all by the virtues of your excellent character, valor and the commitment to both pride and in satisfaction in doing a splendid job. All handled professionally and very faithfully. You were one of the driving forces behind the scenes who brought class, charisma and decency to a position that has validated your legacy. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Hopeful and hospitable. You and Karen were just that, Officer Cook. After all you both worked in professions that called for optimism and common courtesy. Nursing is not a simple profession as not everyone is cut out to be a nurse. It takes a certain persona to structure one's life and career where having a good bedside manner is required. Police work also requires responsibility and the acute awareness to be able to deal with certain matters in a split second way. Officer Cook, both you and Karen were two level headed individuals who maintained honesty and integrity at all times, thereby making your challenges a bit less stressful. To be able and available to lead other through crises calls upon one's inclinations of ingenuity and intellect. You must have a passion and yet act compassionately for peace and unity, medicine and ethics to properly function together in balance. Dade County was extremely fortunate to have in its midst two able bodied people of character, conviction and courage. It must be straight from your hearts which it always was. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero, Officer Cook. You were a serene and conscientious officer who strived for quality and excellence a tall times. A man of humanity whose humility was the cornerstone of both your life and professional career.

You were a fearless warrior and a savior who was well respected, cherished and possessed the proper morals and character to carry out your professional jobs freely and without obstacles.
