Reflections for Police Officer William Coleman Cook
If the citizens understand the umbrellas by which police officers function, you can realize why honor and dignity are essential to one performing their job. The rigors and stress are reasons as to why most don't pursue this profession. Dade County was under your watchful eyes, Officer Cook and your demeanor was exactly what made you successful. A man on a mission of resolve who was respected by his comrades and saluted for courage and unselfish commitment. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. One's legacy to heroism is seen as the elixir to fighting crime. Violence must be weeded off our streets and replaced with sanity, peace and a healthy admiration for all mankind. Tact and tenacity must merge at the right moment for enhancement to take its rightful spot.

There was no swagger. No showboating when you patrolled, Officer Cook. You met your assignments willingly, nobly and most passionately. There was no turning and running away from this violence, its evil that has still taken charge of our world. You just have to stay the course, be honorable and dignified. The resolve and its ramifications will speak for themselves. So long as our public servants all heroes and heroines who look to shape the framework of their given communities keep peace and proper perspective, the world as we understand it to be will be free of obstacles that peace deserves. Your dedication and desire, Officer Cook, your faithfulness and determination all have been a part of your legacy of good character and moral fundamentals which have brought enhancement and education to the citizens of Dade County who have been yearning for serenity and its very special message discharged by a loyal and self-confident officer. A man of fabric whose ethics delivered only honor and respect to your department and to your peers who served wisely alongside of you. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. We pause and reflect back upon your life, Officer Cook, one filled humbly with quality service to humanity, one who took the time to listen and to battle wickedness as our savior. You were a welcome relief to the multitude of colleagues who looked to your leadership, ingenuity and positive influence. It shall be one. Those words on your gravestone have formulated the foundations for liberty and the aspirations of success and happiness to continue their journeys, so too does your beloved soul as it travels within God's skies. The sun, its rays and the moon, its brightness at night brings the picture into better focus. Clearer and more clarity.

We the public cannot ensure total safety. That is why we place our missions in life, our peace, our honor and reverence in the hands of duly sworn public servants whose humility and integrity help them find answers to the ailments of our society. You advice and sage wisdom, Officer Cook, came in handy while you were out patrolling and serving Dade County and its residents. Nothing is guaranteed, Nothing is a sure thing. But. one thing, actually quite a few things, you were humble, honest and most dependable when the circumstances dictated. When life mattered you were there to save lives. Colleagues today and back then could only honor your heroic memory by saluting your valor, diligence and the utmost in character, commitment and the pride by which you donned your uniform and badge. It serves to motivate those brave men and women who now serve the very same but distinct professional as you did. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. We will keep praying for you Mrs. Cook. God bless your family and wonderfully brave and dear son, Officer William C. Cook. Your Billy was a splendid human being and more importantly a beloved gentleman with a caring and kindly compassionate heart. I meant to say, Officer Cook, that all officers must be extremely careful on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving. But, than again they must be cautious everyday no matter the circumstances. You were precise and prudent in all of your decisions, Officer Cook. A person's sure honesty and dignity generally will pave the trails to success. Dade County and its heroes are only guided with integrity and not bias which can distort the reality of one's resolve to come up with solutions to problems. Professional and practical. Prideful and mindful. Commitment and character. All the reasons as to why resourcefulness may take shape and fruition may be fulfilled. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

You navigated around Dade County, Officer Cook, with the fervent hope of serving and protecting our dignities. it can only occur when we the people along with those brave and courage souls who have our backs smartly and alertly act with precision and pride. Police must fly straight and avoid any kind of trouble. their devotion must be centered on those specific duties at hand. Dade County was your area, Officer Cook, it received your total support, dignity and integrity. There was never a time when you were lackadaisical. One can't be to perform and to function at an optimal level. If peace and unity is needed twenty four seven the total attention to detail can never be absent. A man's life and career are his length of days and though you were here for twenty-five years, a relatively short time, you made the most of your opportunities and aspirations. Dreams can come true with a little bit of fortune, by even more studious work and practice. Practice makes perfect. When the walls start chipping you know it's time to paint them. When crime gets a bit out of hand, you know that is the time to place more police officers in the area to serve and to protect with integrity and honesty. Lately, we in the United States have been experiencing the flames of violence perpetrated against decent and honest public servants. Criminals don't function with their glasses quite full and for the mayhem they commit, answers just are not easy to come by. In Dade County you had most solutions and resolutions to the problems that confronted the citizens, Officer Cook. By staying within the boundaries of common sense, rationale and dignity situations could be headed off before they festered into something more harmful. A careful person plans for things. A careless person dives right in not knowing full well the ramifications of their actions. By being committed, Officer Cook, the peace and quiet was realized all by the virtues of your excellent character, valor and the commitment to both pride and in satisfaction in doing a splendid job. All handled professionally and very faithfully. You were one of the driving forces behind the scenes who brought class, charisma and decency to a position that has validated your legacy. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Hopeful and hospitable. You and Karen were just that, Officer Cook. After all you both worked in professions that called for optimism and common courtesy. Nursing is not a simple profession as not everyone is cut out to be a nurse. It takes a certain persona to structure one's life and career where having a good bedside manner is required. Police work also requires responsibility and the acute awareness to be able to deal with certain matters in a split second way. Officer Cook, both you and Karen were two level headed individuals who maintained honesty and integrity at all times, thereby making your challenges a bit less stressful. To be able and available to lead other through crises calls upon one's inclinations of ingenuity and intellect. You must have a passion and yet act compassionately for peace and unity, medicine and ethics to properly function together in balance. Dade County was extremely fortunate to have in its midst two able bodied people of character, conviction and courage. It must be straight from your hearts which it always was. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero, Officer Cook. You were a serene and conscientious officer who strived for quality and excellence a tall times. A man of humanity whose humility was the cornerstone of both your life and professional career.

The divine fear God, commit to honor, uphold righteousness and are dignified and honorable enough to battle the enemies of evil that await those who are not careful. Being careless and dishonest can only lead to more sources of trouble. We want our most brave and distinguished officers to battle tooth and nail for our liberty, peace and unity. That's just what you did, Officer Cook. You laid the foundations of fairness, firmness and integrity within the general radius of Dade County and its residents. You were a fearless warrior and a savior who was well respected, cherished and possessed the proper morals and character to carry out your professional jobs freely and without obstacles. You have been saluted for coming to the aid of your colleagues and the civilians who were involved that awful day of May 16, 1979, when you heroic performed as you were trained to do. Undeniable and unfathomable what has transpired lately in wake of quite a few police officers being killed in the line of duty. The minds of the wicked strike when you least expect. The thoughts and prayers this holiday time go out to their loving families, colleagues and close personal friends. Our country has seemingly reached epidemic proportions in terms of these brave and honest women and men laying something on the line for peace and prosperity rather than hostility to set in. A life is obviously so precious and yet its integrity and dignity is violated time and time again. Thank God, Officer Cook, you were humane and humble, honorable and loyal to your professional comrades and to Dade County at large. You steered peace and conviction within its parameters where you dared to protect and serve the sacred trust and hope of all mankind. To dream the impossible dream, to fight with unbearable sorrow, that sadness now is over your untimely passing through the very violence you took an affirmation to thwart. No one will ever forget your decency, class or character to maintain control over a situation and to resolve to fix what needed fixing. A job done right. A life and career performed and lived in a first class manner. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. To live on in the hearts and thoughts of those who admired you and cherished your memories, Officer Cook. You gave every ounce of endeavor right until the end. A foundation and legacy bearing the cornerstones of humility, compassion, faithfulness and determination all exceeding our expectations. There is never smooth sailing, but, with your beloved soul watching over us protect, perhaps their faith and stamina will not quiver. It must remain unshakable and unrelenting. The pursuits that will yield the best outcomes. Society has its heroes and heroines guarantees from the heavens above. You are among the many angelic saviors observing the happenings.

Accredited and acclimated. It all runs along the lines of astuteness and professionalism through and through. When brave and courageous, noble and honorable public servants go out and patrol our streets and their venues in search of peace and prosperity, they too look for crime and anything remotely associated with it. They help rid these areas of violence through due diligence and ever present vigilance. You focused on your jobs at hand, Officer Cook and through humility and integrity you made things happen. Reality was brought into a much clearer focus than ever before. Dade County, its health, vitality, peace and wisdom were humanely restored by your heroic efforts my neighbor, friend and hero, Officer Cook. Your legacy was the appreciation from the citizens of a job well done and the inner strength of courage from your heart. One cherished as much as is your treasured soul a sit continues flying high everyday. Your gift to humanity is the day your loving parents brought you home from the hospital after conceiving you. The special gift of life and a career, never a moment frittered away. Dade County and for that matter the entire police world won't ever forget you. You were a special gentleman, Officer Cook. Your smile said it all. Pride and proud. Commitment and character. Conviction and compassion. They travel down the trails of tenacity when torment rises up to confront, confound and confuse us. You stood tall, Officer Cook, when the going got tough, you put the metal to the pedal. This is precisely when any officer's mettle is tested. It's a challenge so let us pray those who have taken over your watch do so as bravely, humbly and as loyally as you. A uniform and badge worn distinctly and deservedly. The learning curve for most is larger. Why? Because officers, they must see the big picture to size up a situation and make a sometimes split second decision to act decisively. We, the ordinary citizen does not always witness what our bravest and most courageous servants see. Seeing is believing. The power to rationalize is to be utilized in order not to jeopardize lives and property. You did everything you could for Dade County folks, Officer Cook. You maintained faithfulness, loyalty and fairness for one and all. No one could expect as much, you answered all your roles and tasks efficiently and with clarity. Your heart was filled with compassion and yet unwavering commitment which is now being cherished and so honored by all mankind. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.
