All Dade County as any area wants is for its people to live quietly and without tensions simmering and then boiling over. This is where your participation, Officer Cook, spurred on others to act the part. When respect and devotion come together, then hopeful anticipation may follow suit. What a man! Your dignity and integrity were just what any department needs in times of crises. Kind. Careful. Considerate. Words that go to the heart and serve as the proper motivation, just as commitment and character where conviction to due diligence takes its leads from those who act justly. Today is Veterans Day. A solemn day of remembrance in which we look back on those heroes who gave their lives for our great land. Police officers who sacrifice must too be treasured for given their beings to expose the corrupt forces of wickedness. You were that individual, Officer Cook, a man of perseverance and persuasion, a gentleman who exercised his authority the right way to broker unity and quiet for all residents of Dade County. You left a wonderful legacy of resolve, determination and desire hooked up with morals and character which you donned everyday. The uniform and badge spoke. The people saw and listened. Now brighter days are on the horizon thanks in large part, Officer Cook, to your professional demeanor. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. But, hate and racism, bigotry and anything else which is detrimental to society has no place within the rocks where it can hide. Those who commit violent acts of evil will be tracked down and brought to justice. Your task, Officer Cook, was to place the foundations of unity, freedom and peace back on Dade County streets. Our Constitution has twenty-seven amendments. One guarantees freedom of speech. One allows us to bear arms, legally of course. Another allows us the right to invoke incriminating ourselves. One is when the president is incapacitated. We have laws against violence and the right of any duly sworn officer to serve and to protect. When a young man goes out on his patrol and serves the public with only humility, humbleness and integrity, then why is his life just snuffed out? All you were doing, Officer Cook, was your job. Never rude. No doubts. No selfishness. Only unwavering knowledge, vision and leadership skills to see you and those under your command through. Your legacy of heroism, Officer Cook, has left the roots of enhancement branched out. They are in your family's pursuits in life, their happiness was your happiness. Dade County's peace, unity and prosperity was yours as well, Officer Cook. Pristine and personal. Professional and prudent. We ask a lot from our most esteemed and brave officers. Not just honesty, dignity and integrity. There must be an unselfish commitment to seeing justice carried out properly and fairness distributed justly for all. Peace and quiet. Security and serenity is not a singular issue. Every citizens is entitled to live freely and be able to pursue their dreams, aspirations and goals. This is what makes our world prosper and allows us to function freely. It's one thing to disguise yourself. It's another thing to act professionally and with honesty. There were no tricks. There were no games. The gain that Dade County and its citizens sought was the much needed relief and you brought them that, Officer Cook. You were a meticulous and tireless officer who delved into ways to solve and resolve problems before they happened. That awful day of May 16, 1979, changed everything. You went to a scene of a domestic issue and tried with your comrades to coerce a young man to surrender. You did your part with integrity and dignity. Your partner that day helped you as you defended and saved them from further harm. You also saved the civilians involved in that dispute. Your valor and character, Officer Cook, was simply outstanding as was your commitment to excellence and the convictions to conquer the evil that still permeates within our society. I hate to see another officer killed while performing their duties as it's occurred again in Pennsylvania. But, that's what makes these heroes and heroines supreme. More than honor. They must move quickly and precisely where evil and its wanton violence strikes. It shakes the very core, the very fabric of our society threatening the peaceful and unified movements of all. here in Dade County where you served, Officer cook, the citizens could not have been in any better hands. You too were a humble and trusted officer, a gentleman who honored society and his colleagues wit ha repertoire of dignity and integrity all blessed by Our Creator. The grief families suffer when a love one passes before their time can be totally consuming. Rage. Anger. Puzzling. Yet, the time continues its movement onward. God is the master timekeeper, He keeps those clocks well oiled and in perfect timing. You kept dignity, law and order right in front of everyone in Dade County, Officer Cook. All in a day's work was your labors of love and endeavor. To feel the air of peace and unity as one it took a collaborated effort among your peers and those citizens in the windows of your resolve and resourcefulness. The means of your missions completed according to God's master plans for His devoted servants.
