Reflections for Police Officer William Coleman Cook

Failure cannot be the optimum word when preserving the public trust. Rather, fruition must be any officer's dignity and integrity to resolve any situation that comes their way. Most public servants have plenty on their professional dockets already, yet, experience and expediency are mandatory when crises arise. You handled most if not all tasks, Officer Cook, gamefully, gallantly and most astutely. The peace and unity in Dade County rested comfortably and confidently in your hands and feet. The truth of a humble hero was spoken and most if not all residents understood its message. Police are not preachers, as they too must answer to an even higher authority. God knows His beloved flock of dedicated and able bodied personnel. A treasured man who just wanted to do his job and through decent character and conviction beyond the calls of duty you performed at a high level when it counted the most. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. legacies don't disappear. They are the living spirit of those who upheld the dignity of their chosen communities where they served and brought out enhancement to a more humane level. The angels up in heaven have been uplifted by your presence, Officer Cook and that of your comrades who too gave their lives and careers for a noble cause.

Each officer has a bird's eye view of the very venues they police and protect. So to speak they have a front row chair of what it means and takes to preserve and to serve the public interest. Each time out, Officer Cook, you checked and double checked to make certain you had the right tools to transfer to your duties in order to serve fairly and faithfully. Dade County, its citizens and property were validly taken care of because of your astuteness, integrity and honor. We pay homage to your memory, cherish your life and admire a gentleman of fortitude who led other men and women with unwavering commitment to pride and excellence. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. As we travel through winter now, the days and nights are shorter, those memories of your life remain etched in our hearts and minds forever, Officer Cook. A man whose mission was clear. Rid Dade County from evil by evicting violence from its streets. You solved and were a man of great resolve.

Better to be tenacious than be a terror. If only the one's who seem to subscribe in committing evil. They are the ones who need to be taken off the streets, tried and convicted in a court of law. History should not need to repeat itself. Here in Dade County you were highly thought of, Officer Cook. Why? because you had honesty, integrity and dignity within your personal and professional demeanor. Those officers who support good character, conduct and are courageous enough to take a stand against violence are the ones who will hopefully deliver the peace and unity where it's needed the most. The foundation of your heroic legacy, Officer Cook, is crystal clear. You embellished enhancement and embraced humanity through the eyes of humility never to be forgotten by your family, colleagues and friends. Only saluted for having sage wisdom and a vision of how things should get done. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

I know, Officer Cook, that you were a very devout and righteous gentleman and a marvelous police officer. We know there is a God in heaven, the Almighty, Our Lord and Creator. He watches and keep His video recorder on permanently. Make no mistake another colleague of yours in San Antonio, Texas, Detective Benjamin Marconi, was shot and killed while writing a traffic ticket for someone. Another person unrelated came up to his patrol car and ambushed him, shooting him twice in the head and fleeing the scene. You will be caught. Do yourself and the police department a favor and surrender. There was no quit in you, Officer Cook. Honesty, integrity and bravery never take vacations otherwise those who are intent in launching themselves into violence would have a seemingly free reign to do so. Dade County and its people were in faithful and respectful hands while you served and attempted to conquer this wave of terror. You will be fondly remembered for your bravery, intelligence and maturity beyond your years that allowed you to pursue professionalism as it should be carried out. A man of character, quality commitment and heroism should humbly be well received when God waits at His gates to place His angelic wings on you to now police His golden streets, there nothing will ever harm you again. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. You never surrendered to temptation, Officer Cook, your tenacity and uniform and badge you wore was represented with only the qualities of humility and real courage all from within your heart. The ideals and dreams, your aspirations are now our hopes and optimism that peace will be a finality. Not just a stab in the dark.

If you complain God will give you something to complain about. Just relax and take things in stride and more often than not they will workout. Plans and their preparations need time to take effect. Fruition can only be achieved by their due and careful diligence and hopeful and faithful vigilance. Being the honorable and loyal public servant, Officer Cook, you allowed your thought process along with your dignity and integrity to take you around Dade County providing and preserving the peace and security the residents asked for. Great people, those modest and reserved let their actions and passionate labors of love and respect speak for themselves. They did. And you conversed your message, Officer Cook, quite sagely and efficiently. Now if we could just learn from our miscues and move on to properly finish off our missions with as much respect and admiration that you possessed for your official position. You exceeded expectations and yet there will be this emptiness and profound sadness, Officer Cook, that you are not physically here to complete those tasks which will further advance the ideals and morals of our society. Police work is not for everybody. It is not routine, simple or mundane. It requires thinking, good health and the right kind of character, commitment and class which you had to navigate and to lead other members of your division and department through the trials and tribulations. Realizations, ramifications, rationalizations and restorations all fall under the descriptions of any officer's duties. A lot on one's professional plate and plenty said. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Courtesy and compassion went well together just as humility and humanity. They work well when balanced fairly and firmly in carrying out justice for all. Serving a community or any locale takes teamwork, effort and unwavering and unselfish energy to get things progressing as they should. During your watch, Officer Cook, things functioned like a well oiled machine. Dade County never forgets nor overlooks their heroes and heroines so righteous in their ways, it is in the lives they led by exemplary conduct. Yours, Officer Cook, was stop notch and first class.

The rights of individuals are sacred and should treated as such. Those sworn law enforcement personnel must too act the part.
