Reflections for Police Officer William Coleman Cook

The wisest way to accomplishment is directly based upon having the morals and their fabrics of character and commitment. You can't get going until everything falls into place. The safety and security of the public at large rests on principles that allow the safe navigation while serving and leading others. You were, Officer Cook, a young man who planned for a life of service and served with the wisdom and knowledge to make things happen. Sometimes destiny takes one to a place where they may not belong. On May 16, 1979, you answered a domestic call, you performed your job properly and most efficiently, yet, today we still don't know why? You left behind memories of a wonderful person whose commitment and pride rested in your abilities to act correctly and maintain honesty and humility all in the same breath. You won't ever be forgotten and your legacy of courage remains within those walls of honor for those of us who want to view a gentleman with a kind and compassionate heart. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Loss of life surely overshadows victory. Winners and losers are those that play games. Law enforcement is never a game where human life is always on the line and its bravest and humblest are constantly scrutinized. The microscopes are always on watching and observing the honesty, dignity and integrity of all officers preserving and protecting our liberties and peace. Peace and unity here in Dade County were under your leadership of other comrades, Officer Cook, you were a responsible and resourceful public servant with the morals and character to be able to handle the rigors of all your tasks and so you were able to deliver long lasting enhancement. Your heroic legacy remains forever within the hearts of your beloved family and colleagues. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. A cherished man who is missed everyday.

With a proficiency and prudent approach to solving crime, it made all the difference in resolve and certainly your faithfulness, Officer Cook, factored into all your decisions. Some made in split seconds where life and property matter the most. Always considerate with the class, decency and the character to fairly and justly uphold the law. Never a worry about your morals and the fortitude by which police must tackle everything tossed their way. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. A legacy of heroism comfortably founded in the very walls of honor that are afforded to those who paid the ultimate price for peace and its dignity to flow freely within society. Your superiors never worried when you were out on patrol, they understood the value of comprehension and compassion.

Destruction leads to the desecration of the very morals by which our society was created over two-hundred and forty years ago. Doom and violence are the evils by which we as free citizens cannot live. But, on the wings of our wonderfully brave public servants do we go out and attempt to prosper, to live, to breathe, to laugh and to have fun. During your life and police career, Officer Cook, you maintained this smart balance between good and bad, kept alive by your humbleness and humility toward all humanity. If honor, integrity and dignity could revive those whose missions were deemed complete, to put it bluntly, Our Lord would not have His angelic servants walking those sacred beats on His streets. Unfortunately, your life, Officer Cook, was tragically taken by this wickedness and yet you persevered while patrolling Dade County keeping civility alive as is your cherished spirit which is in heaven going from place to place making sure officers keep their character, conviction and commitments in logical order. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Shape and weave that into a pattern of tenacity and perseverance. During your time and watch over us, Officer Cook, many things stand out, if I could pick two in particular, your honesty and bravery, not by a stroke of luck, rather by persistence and diligence to be the best you could be. Your loving family members, your close personal friends and those colleagues who worked with you at the Central Division all took pride and have much to be thankful and grateful for. That was to be blessed by a treasured man of humility, a charismatic individual of leadership capabilities and the innate wisdom to direct other officers through the not so easy moments. Police work, public service can quickly humble those who are engaged in providing the quality of life we all come to expect. You handled your roles very professionally, Officer Cook, never backing down nor turning away from violence. You just had unwavering courage and valor that will be something to revere forever. Your legacy blessed by an abundance of admiration from all mankind that has maintained the cornerstones of your convictions all worn smartly and proudly on your chest.
