Reflections for Police Officer William Coleman Cook

Mistakes on paper can be erased. Pencils have these. But once a bullet leaves its chamber heaven knows where it might go. There can never be a price tag put on a human life. The sanctity rests within the heart and soul of every living being. And every living being residing in Dade County and in Liberty City on May 16, 1979, knows full well what you meant as a hero of honesty and as a pillar of dignity and integrity, Officer Cook. Pencils and some pens have these erasers. Police officers carry two pens on their uniform and I don't believe they have erasers. Nothing though could deter you from coming to that scene on that fateful day of calamity and tragedy when you gave your life of character and morals humbly to allow continuance and succession of enhancement to take its proper place in our society where peace and unity rightfully belong. Respect and resolve have been forever etched into those walls of honor here in Miami and in Washington, D.C. You'll be saluted for your fierceness and bravery in helping to combat a nasty foe indeed, evil and its associated violence. Officer Cook, thank goodness for your wisdom, leadership and tunnel of vision that has helped shape a future, one that has greatly missed out on your advanced intellect, ingenuity and keen convictions. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

You have been gone, Officer Cook, for nearly thirty-eight years. The same amount of time my father, Owen C. Davis, served as a New York City police officer. The C is for Charles your dad's first name too, they should both rest in peace. A man born with honesty, raised with character, integrity and dignity. It's all the proof one needs to know and then begin to understand why you became the man and officer who saved lives and fortified the pursuits of happiness for all mankind. Dade County tries to display respect and reverence to its heroes and heroines of the past and certainly those brave souls who go out on patrol serving and leading by examples of class, devotion, decency and character. this has validated your life and career, Officer Cook, the total epitome of effort and ingenuity by calmness and firmness. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Sometimes that admiration is sorely missing as you have been, taken back to heaven to walk that sacred beat on Our Creator's streets paved with angelic heroes and heroines. You all blazed the trails of tenacity and constructed the courses of class and candor by living the lives of humble and humane citizens who won't be forgotten. Stay well Mrs. Cook. I 'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Today is the first day for our new President of the United States of America, a businessman named Donald Trump. How appropriate a name, Officer Cook. And Dade County and its citizens can be ever so grateful for your dignity, diligence and honor in serving and in protecting the causes of peace and what tit means for unity to rule our land. Though, sadly during his inauguration and during the parades that followed protesters launched violence in the streets of Washington, D. C. burning a limousine and looting businesses vandalizing them. The very violence and its evil that took you from this world and your family now seems to have reached an epidemically ignominious stage. You did your part as all officers should trying to head off a domestic incident before it escalated into much more further disaster. You were humane, courageous and kept your integrity about. No pun intended valor and decency, class and character shall Trump over evil. You will be respected and so saluted for your heroism and commitment to pride and excellence forevermore. Officer Cook, you provided the resources of goodwill, fervent hope and positive reasoning as to why you were an accomplished individual and a public servant with the morals to back every navigation with devotion and humility. It is the best thing that all officers can offer our society which has afflictions that not every officer may be used to handling. Challenges and tests never bothered you, Officer Cook? Why? Because the reverent and righteous don't run from danger, they face it straight up and do all that rests in their persevering and preserving power to save lives, citizens and those of their fellow officers. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. The foundations of your legacy rest well in those enhancements you started to set forth during your watch. Dade County is better served by virtue of your devout vigilance.

Integrity, dignity and honesty are not whispers in the dark. They speak loud and clear to convey the important message of why you need honest public servants serving our needs for peace and unity to formalize life and its meaning. They don't just vanish. They stay with a person for their entire life regardless of its duration. Just like desire, devotion and dedication, they follow their heroes and heroines to God's sacred shelter of eternity as they followed you, Officer Cook, all your days and life while patrolling and preserving Dade County and its people. a good name and its quality of character, consideration and commitment do last forever never to be tarnished nor taken away. That is why, Officer Cook, you will be cherished forever. Your feats of battling this enemy in a humble and humane fashion live on in how your family and its members continue their pursuits in life with your spirit guided their every movement. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Guided by the light of your soul we can never lose touch nor direction of our dignity, integrity and decency. You had much left to fulfill. Your twenty-five years is the proof that achievement and effort do go hand in hand. The good traits of a person and their lives last for eternity they can not be taken. Your life was taken suddenly, Officer Cook, there was no time to say goodbye except at your wake and at your Inspector's Funeral. The loss still tugs at your family, colleagues and wonderful friends who respected and admired your grit, gumption and savvy. "Uncle Bo" as you were called, you'll always be loved and missed terribly.

As a lover of the outdoors, those pictures you snapped off, Officer Cook, were as beautiful as that of your soul. A soul houses the spiritual vessel for the body to perform and you performed in an outstanding manner. The citizens of Dade County how fortunate were they. The balance of power rests in the communication and the consolidation of all public servants. Living lives of humility, honesty and integrity, these brave souls expose themselves to the rigors and perils that danger presents them every moment they patrol. Their service and protection require great commitment and the conviction to see their missions until the end. You were a fabulous man, Officer Cook, a gentleman with a compassionate heart and a spirit that carried your life and police career. I meant to say one must engulf their beings in honesty so rich and yet so humble. The testimony of a person's inner character and strength is their tenacity and fierceness by which they battle the forces of evil. So you fought, Officer Cook, for peace and its realization to take shape in Dade County. Enhancement lives on by virtue of your patrols and protection of one and all. Everyday commitment and passion was delivered as was dignity and integrity so vital to any public servant's profession. Always fondly cherished and so honored and saluted for heroism and the morals by which you, Officer Cook, upheld your motivation. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

To reap the benefits of achievement and accomplishment one must engulfed their beings in a sea of humility and integrity. The dignity and honor that must shadow every police officer in their attempts to calmly and coolly restore peace along with law and order for all. Just what you did for Dade County residents, Officer Cook, you were that consummate public servant prepared with a master plan of action. To attack a dilemma you must summon the character and desire from morals all within your being. You did that very well, Officer Cook. Today, as I was driving in the Liberty city area of Miami where you gave your life almost thirty-eight years ago, I came down the block of NW 12th Court and NW 77th Terrace and there were several large apartment buildings all representative of your unwavering and nobly gallant sacrifice. That love, respect and admiration resides within those structures. Foundations of ferocity and the tenacity to fight through wickedness still are there, present to hold the hope and faith, the optimism you exhibited to keep desire and motivation on its proper navigation. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. One shining soul among the many angelic heroes and heroines who protected and served with humble bravery and the boldness to commit to pride and excellence in wearing the badge and in donning the uniform professionally and with pristine preservation for all mankind. Of course I passed the street sign bearing you blessed name. Remembered for being a savior and a warrior like no other. I pray that those who carry on your work do so with the utmost respect and affinity that is expected from your department.

To comprehend means to begin to understand. To ponder and think is all well and good, yet an effort must be put forth such as what you gave the citizens of Dade County, Officer Cook. To live with morals and to carry your honesty and character mighty humbly, it doe stake a special kind of individual. You were that concerned servant, that passionate young man, that valiant and graceful human being. You were taught the values of life and made them part of a successful transfer to a police career with much more left to fulfill. Destiny may be a dream for some, it was your reality. Sometimes life give you things that are meant to test your resilience and resolve. You passed all those exams and more my neighbor, friend and hero to all. What a blessed Godsend! Rest in peace. The weight of our world finds itself squarely resting upon the broad shoulders of our most loyal, honorable and bravest of public servants. That weight, Officer Cook, your handled with love and respect for your professional position. Most officers stay the courses of dignity and integrity, when they slip hopefully there are others to help lift them up. Dade County was your venue, Officer Cook, to police and patrol, evil dared to breathe. Its peace and unity were the foundations of your trust and character all in the name of Our Creator. You will forever be treasured and admired by your comrades, of course always loved and missed by your family. Your spirit resides in God's greenest of pastures as you keep watching over us. Deserting one's destiny would be akin to walking away and throwing in the towel or better yet, surrendering in the face of this very violence that our public servants take an affirmation to protect us from. Your role, Officer Cook, here in Dade County was to be relied upon when resolve and decency came calling. It called and there you and your integrity and maturity were present to stop this kayos and mayhem. A classy man with solid character and commitment to lead other comrades in this war over evil, you will never be forgotten. You stated your case and the residents listened, a shame one young man did not heed your instructions that day of May 16, 1979, troubled as he was. We unfortunately can't bring you back to your family, Officer Cook. Mr. Pearsall's heinous actions were evil and unrelenting as he shot and nearly killed your partner after shooting your two colleagues. You were the hero that day my neighbor, friend and hero. Rest in peace. Liberty City saw its freedom come at a cost. When one man has his life snuffed out, totally unjust and senseless. Callousness beyond normal comprehension.

A wonderful life as a resourceful warrior the kind of humble, honest and respected public servant that Dade County understood would have their backs all in the name of service and compassion. Officer Cook, I may not have known you personally, the words sum up your faithful and loving life. One in which you honored your folks and sister and were a devoted husband to Karen. The legacy of valor and that special inner courage from your heart enabled you to wisely pursue the avenues of peace and unity which all men and women must address favorably, fairly and firmly. Character, class and decency must be the very design by which all who don the uniform and badge must perform their assigned duties only one way, professionally and beyond reproach. This is how you will be fondly and forever remembered, Officer Cook. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Sometimes in life we must take chances. Though, it's not a spinning wheel where we spin something and run around aimlessly without a clue on what we are supposed to do. You have to think and have a means of careful thinking. How else can police officers function and stay calm and collected when peril parades its ugliness about town? You drove through the venues of Dade County, Officer Cook, securing the peace and quality of life the residents all expect. A decent and hard working man of faith and dignity who always gave his best effort and was reinventing the wheel looking for ways to improve his style and approach to problems so perplexing. Your sacrifice, Officer Cook, represents heroism and humbleness at the highest level. A man giving his career to save his esteemed colleagues and saving those citizens who relied upon your leadership skills and authority. By the spinning wheel I meant spin and see what lurks ahead. You did everything by the book that day on May 16, 1979, Officer Cook, you served your Creator with grit and gusto, character and candor, decency and the desire to see your missions of hope and purpose through until their finality. I'll always say you should still be here with your family and friends enjoying retirement. No public servant should ever be forced into retirement, much less have their life taken by heinous and senseless wanton violence no matter who commits this act. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. God is watching over your beautiful soul that blessed your family in so many ways. Your laughter, your smile, your engaging personality, it all factored into a successful life and career with passion and perseverance. Your department has seen many officers, you, Officer Cook, were the right man to wear the badge of integrity and uniform of unwavering and unselfish morals and courtesies afforded to all people. Badge#1664 worked, spoke and produced the reasons why we need more devoted personnel like you. Never forgotten! In our minds and hearts for eternity. We work to earn a living, trying to better this world and you did, Officer Cook. You really were humbly outstanding. The Lord knows His flock who were fearless and most tenacious.

Resolve and resourcefulness are the skills that most police carry with them on patrol. Contemplation requires a little creativity, a bit of foresight. The brave and honest servants think before they speak. They act not on impulse, but on ingenuity, intuition and intellect. Dade County and its citizens were under your watchful guidance for six years of faithful dedication and deserved the opportunity to see you more, Officer Cook, Your absence can only make our hearts grow fonder. You were a humble man of humility and distinction and will be treasured and admired for fostering peace and goodwill among all people. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

To become a K-9 officer you must be a devoted and loving person. Honor and dignity must seize the pathways of perseverance and pride. That animal is your partner and close friend who must be treated the way you would treat all others. I presume back during your time, Officer Cook, canine animals were utilized for service and protection. If ever there was a motivated and most determined public servant who would have deserved to have partner who would be obedient and brave like you it would have been you, Officer Cook. Thank God for your gallantry and ingenuity that has enabled peace and safety to become an enhancement. Your sacrifice was that foundation that along with your character will always be fondly remembered. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Life is an everyday challenge not only for the strong, but for the weak and those who may suffer some sort of affliction. When a solid and strong man of courage and integrity patrolled around the streets of Dade County, your humble being, Officer Cook the sense of pride and its fulfillment were not far away. Dignity and character just as morals and ethics helped you to pursue evil, its violence at least could be decreased. No one wants to lose a loved one, your loss, your colleagues and family's anguish and pain has been felt and that sense of pride and the wonderful memories of a righteous man of grace and bravery remain steadfast. Courage from your heart delivered with dedication and a purely driven desire to succeed at every cost. That cost was your life, the value can never be any more greater. You saved your friends and colleagues that day, the citizens of Dade County putting peace right back on the map. You remain in my thoughts and prayers, Officer Cook. Heaven has a mighty servant and blessed savior, a warrior of humility who gave and cared. You relished your job and worn your uniform with a pristine humbleness not always seen. Better to be seen and not heard at times. Heroic action speaks volumes. The distinction sets public servants apart from the rest of society. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. You kept your word and spoke nothing but the truth.

The rainbow of resolve and honor comes in all patterns. peace and its foundations of unity can only occur, can only truly blossom when one devotes their entire being to the branches of bravery, prowess and the personal satisfaction and responsibility to being dignified and allowing integrity to gradually carry them. It carried you, Officer Cook, in your pursuits in life and during your six years of service as a police officer. Friendship usually lasts forever so long as one's friends stay honorable and loyal to those they trust. An acquaintance may be someone just for a short period of time. Your closest friends, Officer Cook, cherished you and respected your career passions to become a police officer. Dade County appreciated your concern, care and consummate consideration all stemming from your honorable and decent upbringing. Integrity takes one's soul to a destiny that many may not dare to travel. But, peace and prosperity was closely linked to your morals, ethics and courtesies you afforded everyone. We'll remember the message you delivered through a calm and soft voice of reason and its logic which is so essential in the war of evil. Nothing can ever tarnish your reputation as one of the best and so your humility and gallantry on behalf of all humanity can stay enhanced within us forever. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. There must be a reason as to why God takes His most heroic and valiant servants to heaven especially when there is more work left undone and yet your fulfilled your aspirations and dreams. Perhaps we too can maintain guard and fulfill our dreams and goals. It can happen if you will it. Your steady observance along with God's gracious hands can make all the difference.
