I was reading the other day of your home in North Miami Beach, Florida where you grew up, Officer Cook. Your sister and brother-in-law now reside in Arizona. I am asking my wife, Holly to write to Nancy. Just though it would be wonderful to live in your home, after all I had the pleasure to be there when Gina Wilkerson and her husband Trevor were fixing it up. Your brother-in-law was here about a month or so ago fixing and cleaning things up. When I was there and Gina was there with her kids, I showed her a picture of you on the phone and started sobbing like a baby. I then went into your folks' backyard to kick a soccer ball with Legend, your great-nephew. All great kids. I have not seen them in a couple of years. Your honesty, integrity and dignity in protecting Dade County and its residents won't be overlooked nor forgotten. After all you were a hero of the most humane and humble character and consideration toward all mankind. You'll be saluted and so honored for bravely and most firmly establishing peace and liberty for all. I twas morals and principles that your life and career was soundly constructed from. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Gina took me into your room, Officer Cook, the memories are surely sentimental and will always reside within my heart and mind. You were a responsible and accountable public servant whose courtesies and qualities of candor and desire are now resided in God's eternal shelter where no harm will ever come your way. You gave your constant grit and effort for life in Dade County to have such an inspirational meaning. Its message today is loud and clear. Hope, faith and optimism abounding like never before. Stay well Mrs. Cook. I want to send you an Easter card and I will mail it to your grandson, Josh in Pasadena, California. Take care and all the best. You were my neighbor and friend. A dear and beloved woman of faith and resolve. Once again all the best. Your darling and much beloved son, your hero, Officer William C. Cook, will be humbly remembered. His contribution to society rests on those two walls of honor in Miami and in Washington, D. C. I still visit his grave at Dade Memorial Park in North Miami right next to the Jewish cemetery, Mount Sinai Memorial Park.

Flaws in character and in commitment may result in service that is not exemplary. Police work demands a certain conviction to honesty, bravery and integrity. Dignity and desire come from the home and how one is raised. You were brought up by your loving parents in a humble and loving environment. Dade County is a little less safer by your absence. Police need to fixate their energies on ferocity and translate that into unwavering tenacity and humility. Big words and yet it's difficult for every public servant to maintain this throughout their professional careers. Advancement can only happen when dignity, integrity and open honesty are not locked out of the equation. Nothing could lock you up, Officer Cook, or keep you down. A positive and resourceful gentleman of thoughtfulness and action, you made certain Dade County and its residents were going to see that proverbial light at the end of the tunnel. No dreams. Just good old fashioned hard work and the stellar character, commitment and courage to steer you through your life missions and their destinies. Fruition can be fulfilling when you know you've given an honest effort and the resolve is there. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. As an addendum to that story, Officer Cook, the two officers were called to a home of a former police officer. It turned out to be a false alarm and the two dogs came charging at them. The whole thing was just tragic. Officer McAleenan was actually investigating one of Officer Elias' car accidents. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero, Officer Cook. Knowledge, wisdom and vision breed the makings of good leadership. You had that awareness. Never any doubt. When good goes awry, no telling what might happen. The citizens always deserve the very finest and best quality of service. No questions asked.

I have to apologize, Officer Cook. In my last reflection I stated that this officer ran up a huge medical bill hurting her finger. I must correct this she hurt her ankle and leg on a bicycle during police training. Sad, but her quest to become a Metro-Dade Police Officer should have been stopped. I think of the five female officers killed in your department. They had the bravery, honor and discipline to succeed. God had other more important missions for them. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

March 22, 2017

Success can lead to success, but only if accompanied by total honesty and humility for your fellow colleagues and those citizens that are being served and protected fairly and justly. I read the other day of you, Officer Cook, welcoming another comrade from your department into heaven. Officer Henry McAleenan Jr. I read the follow up story from the Sun Sentinel newspaper in 2000 regarding what happened to Officer McAleenan. Another officer accidentally shot him in the groin and damaged his femoral artery. This officer had other issues driving her patrol car and had to be retrained on the usage of her weapon. She also slammed her finger in her cruiser and ran up a huge medical bill. To sum things up, she probably should have pursued another line of work. Not saying she is evil, but where caution and consideration, integrity and dignity are called for, you had the makings to become a proud and humble public servant. Your life, career and sacrifice will never be forgotten, Officer Cook. Your morals and character were the makings of why we need dedicated and loyal personnel answering those dangerous assignments. The two officers were looking for suspects when two rottweiler dogs charged toward them and the female officer fired at her partner by mistake a she was using an expendable baton to protect them. That day you were suddenly taken from us, Officer Cook, you had instructed your partner, Reserve Officer Scott Lincoln not to utilize his weapon. I was not there, perhaps he should have grabbed you taking you out of the line of fire. After nearly thirty-eight years it is all supposition. The what if that occurred. You remain treasured and respected for doing your job in an outstanding and first class fashion always. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. We live today because of your goals, dreams and aspirations. You are our friend, hero and a very blessed Godsend. Keep observing us from God's priestly perch. God's kingdom id preserved and protected by His finest and most humane heroes and heroines. People with troubles and woe need to find the right help. This world is to big and tragically filled with terror, turmoil and enough torment. You were honorable and yet careful as you could be, Officer Cook, when confronting trouble. Your memory lives on as any hero's should through enhancement.

You can be sure that you won't be forgotten for having the unselfish devotion and unwavering heroism and humility toward all mankind that led to peace and stability for all. Your soul and bright smile live on in those loving family members who continue with their passions while keeping the flames of your ferocity burning. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Life and consideration go well when they are executed as per Our Creator's blueprint. We all need to share in the burdens of making safety and serenity a viable solution.

Your character, Officer Cook, your zeal and zest for life made you a happy and yet humble officer. Dade County has struggled with its ups and downs and yet your perseverance and service led to the peace and quality of life we as its citizens share today at this very moment. When a gentleman places his integrity on the line for our own dreams, aspirations to continue, we must remember you, Officer Cook. Mr. Pearsall, the man who was troubled and took your life and nearly those of your comrades, Officers DiGenova, Edgerton and Reserve Officer Lincoln, your partner that day of May 16, 1979, he lived with three generations of his family. Perhaps if they instilled in him proper morals, character, dignity and integrity, maybe the outcome would have been more peaceful and sane. You did all you could have done. God determine sour fates and the fruition that carries each and everyone of us. Never forgotten. A hero and a cherished and treasured Godsend. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Stars are very beautiful to gaze at night when the skies are dark. But better to read and to absorb the astuteness and integrity of police heroes and heroines, all very special and unique individuals who guided us with their wisdom, dignity, knowledge and passion they took everyday to their professional positions of leadership and reliability. Something you were very compassionate about, Officer Cook. Always caring. Always kind and polite. A gentleman of morals for which comrades could only thank you my neighbor, friend and hero for being at the right place at the right time.
