Reflections for Police Officer William Coleman Cook

Restitution helps alleviate destitution. Yes, making amends for committing a wrongdoing assists greatly in this never easy and ongoing battle over violence. The evil that draws itself upon this wickedness can only dehumanize our society and the reasons as to why we need brave, honorable and courageous public servants. Dade County was privy to your resolve and loyalty, Officer Cook, a staunch and remarkable gentleman of gallantry and the highest humane quality of character who set out on a destiny of fruition through your journeys of justice and trails by which you certainly paved the roads of tenacity never to be forgotten. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Conduct your business as a gentleman, be humble and thoughtful, articulate and aware, you probably will succeed nine out of ten times. Police work requires a wide range of professionalism. First, there is honesty, mixed in with essential integrity and dignity from within your brave heart. You had the caliber of care, personality and commitment and conviction that was second to none, Officer Cook. Dade County and its citizens were under your peering eyes of effort, efficiency and the proper endeavor that led to peace and freedom rather than strife and terror. It's just so tragic that violence and that evil struck on May 16, 1979, it took your young life and the sacrifice of character that has enabled clarification to see that light. Your two colleagues who were shot and nearly killed, we cannot say enough for them as we pray for them this day and to continue honoring the light of your beloved and valiant soul that helped to perpetuate goodwill, hope and faith among all mankind. Its vitality unleashes everything positive that the negativity of violence misrepresents. Our society will remember your heroism and your legacy of affection, Officer Cook. Respect was given to each person whom you came across either personally or as a gifted and talented man of ingenuity and a public servant of perseverance and resolve. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. God gives and it is Our maker who takes. He took you back to heaven where perfection and no harm awaits those who expose themselves on our behalf serving and protecting us from the forces of wickedness.
