Terror, torment and turmoil translate into terrifying trouble. No doubt that the very violence we experience each and everyday someplace in this country does cut right into the very souls of peace, unity and the equality of being able to live freely. You can't have your cake and eat it too means I believe that you can't always get your wish to have things without having to earn them justly. Public servants earn their bars, stars and stripes based upon their effort, energy and efficiency. And where is the driving force behind those traits? Staying composed in the very face of strife, something you did very well during your six year police career, Officer Cook, taking excellent care of serving Dade County and its residents need. Everything one works and toils for is supposed to be done with some honor, dignity, integrity and respect for reverence. You were, Officer Cook, mankind's humble and brave messenger of hope, devotion and the resolving faith behind your travels. Peace and togetherness was reaped for one and all by your stitches of serenity and the welcome sight of wisdom, courage and vision. Today, tomorrow, next week and forever will you be heroically saluted for being a humanitarian geared to sanctity, civility, nobility and of all things accountability and its responsibility. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Wanton evil, heinous actions perpetrated by a distressed and diabolical young man took your young life, Officer Cook, you shall never be forgotten. Your wings of commitment are helping your lovely soul fly higher every moment in heaven. Keep those lights from above aglow now and forevermore.

Tradition should never be trampled on. Too much respect and reverence to be shoved aside. When the lives of ordinary people are on the line, it's found in the genes of those gallant and honest enough to care about their safety and peace. A mind is a terrible thing to waste and you never wasted a second, Officer Cook, thinking about trivial matters. The uniform you donned was tailor made to perfection in reverence, resolve and the humane integrity to work well with others and to be able to lead others under stressful times. Dade County was in good hands under your leadership and abilities. The class of stellar character rose to the top as you my neighbor, friend and hero took your challenges and burdens quite seriously saving, serving and keeping sacred affirmations made to steer danger away from us. Rest in peace.

Photos remind us of our loved ones living or not. Even though they may have passed from this life, their memories should never be expunged from our thoughts and hearts. Never. Heroes and heroines, those loving and passionate individuals who gave their honest lives for a cause. Courage and desire beckon for devotion and the faith to act justly. Smart and of sound wisdom was what made you more humble and humane, Officer Cook, in your travels and pursuits of happiness which at times may be an obstacle for evil which lurks in its path. At least, Officer Cook, your trails were blazed by conviction, valor and integrity. Dade County can proudly remember your exploits of excellence through endeavor that has enhanced and endeared you to so many not only your beloved and wonderful family. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Life offers many mysteries to difficult to understand at times. Why would anyone devote themselves to serving and protecting knowing full well accidents and tragedies may occur at any moment? Why subject yourself to a professional career when there are so many more that offer less stress and often carry with them just as much responsibility where honesty, dignity and integrity must be employed? Police work is very honest and dignified and challenges one's resources to the maximum limits. You dreamed about becoming an officer, Officer Cook, surely teaching music, in particular the drums since you were a master at beating those drums while strolling down Norland High School in Miami's hallways. There was however no doubt, no reservation that your aptitude was geared toward a law enforcement career and your parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cook along with your sister, Nancy, were humbly proud of you when you graduated the police academy and pinned on your badge of boldness, humility and loyal and faithful commitment. We knew where Dade County would be living in peace and contentment all due to your diligence and the unquestionable vigilance. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. You sleep soundly in Our Creator's arms of perfect acumen, awareness and astuteness. Keep giving us, Officer Cook, that same determination and fervor from where you eternally patrol those sacred golden streets.

Mercy comes from God's wings of love and emotion. It affects a happening over those who display this interesting characteristic. Having a passion is one thing, having a certain compassion is exuding the humility that God has implanted within all His creatures. You were a happy man, Officer Cook, a hopeful optimistic who was steered to become a police officer since you were a young man. No bell needed ringing when you went out to serve, Officer Cook. Just very sad and tragic it was the bell at St. Mary's Cathedral sounding when you were borne into this humble house of worship for the final time to be remembered by your family, peers and friends for gallantry, humility and the talents interlocked around dignity, integrity and honesty. You paid with your life to save Dade County and its proud citizens. It was fitting that your character would race to that awful dispute in an attempt to calm a troubled young man who like you had a future. Yours, Officer Cook, was like that hot sun the day all our nation bade you a fond and humane farewell. Bright and beautiful. Your actions of heroism won't ever be overlooked. Peace and passion was distributed wisely and sagely throughout a community that admired your pursuits of happiness while risking your being to further enhance our lives. Inspirational and filled with grace and values. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. God's heavenly shelters afford those who paid the dear price of humbly eternal accommodations. They won't be harmed by anymore violence, terror or turmoil. It was tenacity and compassion that navigated their missions of hope and optimism.

People sure behave in the strangest of ways. Those who may not act this way are our most humble and honorable public servants. It's their diligence, vigilance and integrity that may never be questioned as they pursue a career where danger can take their lives. Their lives protecting others. Days go by. Time passes us faster than we could ever imagine. Always the best laid plans of mice and men so to speak can go awry. Why? God plans our agendas and for whatever reason we may be loathe to perform up to our expectations. Certainly, no police officer worth their badge and honor can go out on patrol and give a half hearted effort. Lives, dignity and integrity are at stake. The public whom you served valiantly, Officer Cook, did not have to ask very much. They received loyalty and dedication right back. You were a humble and serene man of character who relished your career and life fighting crime and its never ending torment. Today and forever will you, Officer Cook, be revered, respected and solemnly remembered for bravery and heroism of the highest standard. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Salt makes our food taste a bit better. Vision, wisdom and intelligence coupled with keen intuition and ingenuity make one a little more humane and humbler. A truly blessed man, thoughtful and faithful in all your journeys, Officer Cook and missed very much by all who loved and admired your maturity and comprehension above and beyond your twenty-five years in this world. God's fruits are His stoic and angelic heroines and heroes who laid themselves on the line linking them to honor and bravery forevermore.

A most beloved man a humble and humane hero to all taken from his family, colleagues and this society well before his time. Yes, you spent years toiling for peace with sure tenacity and a fever pitch ferocity, Officer Cook. Dade County and its residents could not have asked for a more supremely honorable and cherished gentleman of faith, unwavering devotion and both the unselfish integrity and dignity that your professional position demanded. You delivered outstanding resolve, coolness and a light calmness despite being overwhelmed by an ugly domestic incident between a man and his girlfriend that resulted in three officers shot and yourself giving your life and very promising career. It was a mission accomplished in this extraordinary battle over evil, all the boldness and vision along with inspiring wisdom was left on that Liberty City street on May 16, 1979 and will be forever saluted for valor and courage over and beyond all your tasks given to you. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Tomorrow you would have turned sixty-four, still a tender young age nowadays and all the moments to share with Karen and your family in particular your three great-nieces and one great-nephew. Take care Mrs. Cook. God willing I will pay your "Billy" a visit and offer prayers for a man of distinction, nobility and the humility that his soul offered humanity and the peace and stability planted by his commitment to pride and excellence. Conviction is one thing carrying it out is a bigger than life challenge for every public servant who walks the face of this Earth.

Custom made for the job, you were given the humble and supreme burden, Officer Cook, of offering service with a smile and honesty to last forever as you patrolled Dade County streets. Those living in that community saw one humanely brave hero with all the results of resolve, class and stellar character and commitment to both pride and excellence in the line of duty. Style points does not amount to anything. What matters most is how your humility and honor, dignity and integrity will help see you through in this excruciating battle of a lifetime. Evil and torment, terror and turmoil take no siestas. They rest where the gentleness of your being, Officer Cook, touched, rather pierced the hearts and minds of Dade County's citizens. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure out your motivations, as they were honorable and surely humbly dignified. It was donned on your uniform and badge the words, class, decency and integrity. All from values and ideals of the quality of outstanding character and concern. Your life well lived, yet, a life and career stopped suddenly by wanton evil committed by a berserk young man distraught, depressed and whatever else took command of his thinking process that awful day. You live on, Officer Cook, in your family's hearts, minds and prayers. The holidays surely could not be happy without seeing your jovial face smiling and lighting up the entire room. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Clearly, consideration and rationalization dominated your mind when you went out to patrol our peace of mind and security. You buy the groceries and cook the meal and even if you prepare properly, if one or more ingredients are missing you are bound to have a less savory meal. If the incorporation of integrity, dignity and honor is absent that public servant might as well hang a surrender flag. No officer capitulates to violence and its evil that is spawn from it. You ran right into a hornet's nest of trouble on that fateful Wednesday afternoon of May 16, 1979 and Dade County because of your humane and gallant actions were spared more heinous harm. Peace and unity ran right up to greet you, Officer Cook, our friend loyal and resourceful right until your last breath. Your unselfish character, devotion and determination to dedicate yourself to battling wickedness never will be overlooked, only solemnly remembered and gracefully saluted for invincible conviction to justice carried out expediently and for all humanity. Officer Cook, for having the gusto and wholesome humility may your good name resonate throughout our land for eternity. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Seize the moment for the opportunity to serve humanity does not always come around a second time. Minutes are frail, the hours so fragile, their moments we should treasure. You treasured your passions in life, Officer Cook, your police career so dear and yet evil robs us of those fleeting moments, the most important ones to care about. It's regarding one's honesty, righteousness and reverence that makes all the difference and no telling how Dade County residents might have fared if not for your heroic actions on May 16, 1979, thirty-eight and a half years ago, you placed your soul of character and commitment on the line serving and preserving the lives of your dignified comrades and those folks loyal to the way they lived their lives in peace and togetherness, all because of your just and faithful journeys of hope, caring and dedication. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.
