The world at times can be so unkind. But, if your dignified, honest and have character along with friends, the mountains to climb don't seem so tough. Police work is not meant to be routine nor taken lightly. It can be cunning and confusing figuring out how to get out of peril. You calculated, Officer Cook, you trained, planned and prepared for a battle royal maintaining safety and harmony for all Dade County. What can be stated is you were a humble and faithful servant who gave his heart and soul for our dreams, yours too to move forward. The tragedy of losing you never left your family and comrades. They all do have those wonderful memories of a young man humane and humble who loved his role. A heroic legacy left to cherish. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Time passes us by before we can even do a thing about it. Well at least in your twenty-five all too short years of life, Officer Cook, you were a sincerely decent and honorable gentleman. You were a crusader on a mission of searching out evil and seeking peace as its permanent replacement. For those of us fortunate to live in Dade County at that time, it was great and so was your dignity, reverence and simply put humane and humble integrity. Not everything can be solved and resolved, but, at least your effort and quality of character and conviction went into the making of a stellar public servant who was loyal and cherished and remains a hero forever in our midst. Heaven received the richness of your warmth, smile and generosity while you dealt with a foe so fierce and yet you were unwavering and unselfish in your sacrifice. I meant to say that a diary lists one's daily activities and plans. We can plan for a bright future never really knowing if we will be present to carry on. When you left your home that early morning of May 16, 1979, Officer Cook, your beloved wife, Karen, your beloved mother, Mrs. Julia Cook and your beloved sister, Nancy, thought you would return home after your shift. Really very sad and just awful having your life snuffed out by a wanton and troubled young man. With everything to live for, missions to faithfully discharge and a growing family of great-nieces and nephews, your humble character, integrity and honor certainly has been greatly missed. Dade County and its folks received the fullest of your ferocity in their searches for peace and liberty. You battled as a heroic warrior right unitl your final breath, leaving no doubt as to your wisdom, vision and maturity beyond the rest of the crowd. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. We will try and take care. Just take care patrolled Our Creator's perfectly paved roads of resolve, its eternal peace will help you watch over your loved ones and those friends and comrades who adored and admired your giving spirit.

You came to Florida in 1954, Officer Cook, along with your family and sister who very much adores you. Dade County and its residents were most fortunate to have a hero of honor, humility, dignity and integrity among their ranks. The caliber of your desire, decency and devotion along with important morals led to your accomplishments and it's just a tragedy that you were taken at a relatively young age, Officer Cook.
