Reflections for Police Officer William Coleman Cook
Every action your family solemnly demonstrates is for you, Officer Cook, "Uncle Bo" remains entrenched within their hearts and minds. Their hero who was blessed with acumen and awareness seeing the big picture of what needed to be completed in order for Dade County's own to prosper, thrive and to be able to leave safely. Badge#1664 was genuine honor, solid character and commitment to being dignified and a man devoutly dedicated to his chosen profession. The branches and roots of integrity, diligence and vigilance were planted tirelessly long before you were conceived. The loyalty and esteem all coming from a wonderful upbringing and an environment where accountability and versatility all met together with your virtue and maturity beyond your years of accepting such a perilous position you took to heart to restore, reclaim and to revive us. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Your reputation and accentuation of everything outstanding in your life, career and marriage, Officer Cook was the personification of a true warrior and it was just a real horror that you were taken so young. Pride and persistence that pacified an angry person, honor and integrity that represented the environment by which you lived with dignity and a heart filled with humility. You think and smile from high atop God's saintly venues of perfection where angels of heroism soar freely looking over their beloved families. Another police family I had the humble pleasure to meet, Officer Cook, was Detective Scott Richard Rakow of the Miami Beach Police Department killed in the line of duty June of 1988 and if he were alive and with his beloved Toni and married daughter Erica he would have been my age sixty-three in July. Another officer I never got to meet was Officer Emilio Fidel Miyares of the Hialeah Police Department killed in the line of duty in November of 1986. He left a widow, Theresa and a son and daughter. They would have been married forty-five years this August. Officer Miyares would have also been sixty-three years old born ten days after me. He left Cuba to come here to live and to serve humbly as an angel also. I drive by his sign in North Miami after visiting the Jewish residents at Villa Maria Nursing Center near where your collague and friend Officer Keith DiGenova once lived. His twin brother Kenneth lives nearby. Both very sad because they left wives and young children behind. Nothing is worse than you giving your life that day of May 16, 1979 when Dade County lost a real honest and heroically dignified gentleman, a human being whose eyes and ears guided your paths of truth and trust, such virtue and sacred journeys all now in heaven soaring high above your family who cherishes the opportunity to carry the mantle of your legacy. A cornerstone and foundation built to last forevermore despite this constant violence and unfathomable evil we battle daily. You were consummate and the very best when life and trouble required your greatest intervention and acumen. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero of character, integrity and a heart that cared and sacrificed for mankind to thrive.

Police work humbles the most loyal, honorable and dedicated of those who risk their lives to serve and to protect their communities. Your burdens and onuses, Officer Cook, were all carried out on behalf of Dade County with dignity, integrity and every train of thought and heroic resourcefulness possible. In twenty-five years you accomplished more than those who live well into the decades. Terrible that one man took away your life, career and your wise soul and gentle heart from your family who remembers and not one day forgets their"Uncle Bo."
