Abominable just horrible we still read about cop killers released unto the streets of society. A very painful and sad part of our justice system. Families, comrades and friends who try and cope with a loss beyond words. Your killer, Officer Cook, was shot and eventually killed by your comrade, Detective Donald Blocker. For your versatility and acumen you proved your valor and honesty could and would heroically stand up to the likes of evil while defending our liberty and unity right here in Dade County. A safe haven we hope for all to pursue happiness. And only your character and fine reputation at least attempted to keep calm and civility on those dangerous venues. So there you were, Officer Cook, to respond and try your utmost to put out a situation where turbulence was swirling like no other. Those winds of evil blowing against a peaceful community where your valued service, integrity and wisdom were front and center. Those who display the humane character and conceal their efforts are the ones being rewarded by Our King Himself. Putting some ointment on a cut is one thing. You cannot put a bandage on evil and think it will just vanish. Your valor and virtue, Officer Cook, helped to see Dade County through those doldrums where heinous evil and violence of a troubled man took your life and a promising career all headed for humble and humane effort. It took your heroic and honorable duties to those whom you served to at least begin with some unity and liberty. In today's modern world we need more unification than puzzling polarization. But. seeing you were the class of character, decency and the principles of dignity and integrity there was no need to worry. Mrs. Cook, if you are well out there in California and can read any of these reflections that I have left for your beloved and darling son, Officer William C. Cook, "your Billy,", take heart as you always knew he was heroic and well mannered with morals, politeness and the common courtesy that all men and women shall have before donning a uniform and wearing a badge of humility where honesty, integrity and the dignity of one's comportment shall only be known. It was for six years of loyal and demanding tasks here in Dade County where the preservation of life was under his onus and scopes of security and tranquility. All a salute and tip of the cap for having the gallantry to stay face to face giving every ounce of energy to deny violence its chances to ruin our community where you lived, grew up and got married to Karen, a wonderful woman.
