Reflections for Police Officer William Coleman Cook

Violence is that pandora's box of hell. We live it. We breathe it and try to escape it. Dade County had your respectful and resourcefulness on hand to serve and to protect us, Officer Cook. The humble honor and humility all central to restoring peace and some stability for a community hoping and praying for such. You were a man among your peers, Officer Cook, with a gallant and dignified heart of integrity which made your commitment and character stand up to the challenging tests at hand. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Humanity is where heroes dwell and devote their souls of safety.

Dreams can come true but with a little effort put forth. Goals are nice to make but a word of affirmation awaits the brave and bold who honor our world with their adoring enhancement. You honored your parents and Creator, Officer Cook, by doing His faithful work reaching out to Dade County folks promising some serenity and freedom of movement for all. Mankind is indebted to your unwavering character and unselfish commitment to trust and tenacity doled out equally to all humanity. Friendship starts with a greeting and so everyday you greeted those in Dade County with a smile and the politeness that follows a loyal young man's exploits into the jungles of peril. Those paths are full of something and it was your responsibility, Officer Cook, to fix what needed fixing and to transplant some safety and liberty into those cherished lives. When good character meets up with marvelous mettle, then the morals one is raised with come to the top more quickly. You remain a gentleman of grace, integrity and the practices of dignity so vital to battling evil. Terrible wickedness that still plagues our humanity today and because of your absence, Officer Cook, things become a little more hectic. I would assume your soul revered and austere is watching over your family and those of us desiring quiet. Humble and humane, heroic and wise beyond your years. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Taciturn and firm. Soft and humble. Bold and full of honor and integrity. It's all in the name of truth and trust that you heroically served and protected life in and around Dade County. Our esteem for you, Officer Cook, can be addressed by honoring your reverence and resolve on behalf of humanity. It was your character and courage which sealed your cherished souls within those hollowed walls of remembrance here and in Washington, D.C. A man with a hint of what needed to be concluded in order for our prosperity to occur who went out and did an outstanding job preserving fruition. All your journeys and their missions had humbleness spelled out in their every move. You'll never be forgotten for building goodwill among a community that solemnly respects your legacy. A life taken before your time. God and you, Officer Cook, along with those comrades who have sacrificed are now serving an even greater role. Protect those whose honor and bravery preserve our harmony as you walk that proverbial beat up above. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

When the mind goes you know something is up. It's when a tender young heart of honor and humility is torn away from a family and peers then you really begin to suffer. Your loss to your family and colleagues, Officer Cook, left a gaping hole and made Dade County and its folks a bit less safer. Pride and dignity, relevance and reality, all part of your character and integrity. We could identify with your pursuits of happiness while going after evil. Violence and terror like a storm that can seize and sap the strength out of any community. You are being so honored for giving humanity a chance to look serenity and unity in the eye. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Never a more beautiful soul than yourself, Officer Cook. Badge#1664 was just what Dade County and its residents were looking for. That living stability of actual serenity and some liberty to pursue happiness and the pangs of prosperity. The brave soldier who directed others through danger because of your unselfish sacrifice, humility and the honesty by which each officer wears his or her uniform. You went after crime, Officer Cook, never running away and seeing terror close up. How much more can a man do? Always admired, cherished and well respected among the ranks, your memory shall be so honored humbly and humanely. Crystal clear wisdom, vision an d scruples to tackle anything. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Courtesy. Safety and the proper attitude always shall win out. Never wavering, always sincere and with a kind heart.

God does favors. In return we display our loyalty and compassion to all His creatures. Creation is meant for productivity and a lack thereof means something is amiss. Police work cannot go wrong and yet for all the training, classroom and street work things can go radically wrong in a heartbeat. What happened on May 16, 1979, Officer Cook, a sinister man who took your life and dignity from you and nearly that of your colleagues and those people involved in that nasty domestic incident that spoiled the peaceful day here in Dade County, Your hopes and dreams, integrity and honesty were subjected to an inhumane coward. Your heroism and humility was the knight in shining armor with a character complete with decency and intuition. Saluted as our savior and warrior forevermore. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

God pays His own homage to His men and women of ferocity and resolve by assigning them a most difficult task when it is needed the most. Their sacrifices yielded way to peace, prosperity and the unity we as residents must have to thrive. Your loving respect for your position, Officer Cook, produced open minded and trustworthy honor, dignity and integrity every watch. Not a fly by night operation. Dedication, desire and motivation create chances for humble success when a public servant applies their wisdom and vision to the problems at hand. Dade County was steered by your youthful eyes and ears, Officer Cook, a legend and a true hero and gentleman of gallantry, humility and esteem for humanity. With outstanding character everything was straight ahead if not for that awfully terrible day when God took you from your beloved family and persevering peers of justice. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Ghosts and goblins are all part of Halloween. Gallantry and honesty are an every second part of police action. The kind that emancipates communities and their locales from evil, insane and so tragic. Your tasks here in Dade County were to provide each resident with a safe haven by which to thrive and surely as your kindness and faithfulness, Officer Cook, did you live up to your solemn affirmation of trust and truth. All of which your character, dignity and integrity spelled out during a successful life of humility given back in serenity to humanity. Oriented and with a sense of direction, your life and public service career, Officer Cook, were led by mettle, morals and the principles that take honor, pride and intuition all in the same direction. Your paths in life, your dignity and integrity should never have been interrupted by the wanton and brazen actions of a troubled man. If you are depressed seek help. If you are diabolical and looking for trouble stop and ponder your actions and what might come as a result of them. Dade County and the Liberty City area where you patrolled for peace and exactly that liberty for all is not all that bad of a venue and consider today, Officer Cook, because of your unselfish, character, heroism and humility we and they have benefited if only you could have witnessed the changes that have arisen. Your soul has risen each day under Our Creator's guidance and girding strength, His mercy for all. Just keep looking down on your family and flock of colleagues who worked alongside of you. I continue praying for you Mrs. Cook. Devout and faithful ,congenial and as was your son your darling son pride and joy along with his big sister, Nancy. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Back in your time, Officer Cook, they played certain songs on the radio which reminded me of your service and honor. You did your job and gave your life in Dade County for our peace, liberty and branches of unity to be spread out far and wide. It took your kindness and integrity to patrol those streets where violence lurked looking for a staple of serenity. Unfortunately, a wicked and evil man, Mr. Pearsall felt compelled to shoot your comrades and in the process shoot you and take your young life and its missions away from your soul. Our Lord has your soul to watch over your brave and honorable comrades of today trying to make peace and quiet where its affects are everlasting. You dug in and provided humanity with its foundations for a better future. A hero stamped and etched in everyone's heart and your family's as well. Keep watching us, Officer Cook. Keep goodwill flowing like a well of milk and honey. "Do It Or Die" by Ronnie Hammond, every time I hear that song it makes me cry. Twenty-five and a marvelous man full of mettle and principles.
