Reflections for Police Officer William Coleman Cook

Hope is lost if trust and truth are lost along those trails of justice. It never wavered nor was absent from your diligent patrols of Dade County, Officer Cook. Forever determined to weed out evil and deliver peace and harmony, stability and togetherness. Your character and dignity along with honor and bravery only fortified your integrity during those wars over violence and terror. We can claim some solace and sense of salvation as we offer our solemn salutes of serenity and valor to you, Officer Cook. May God take your treasured soul of affirmation into HIs loving arms and cradle you with His own special brand of humility. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Those bricks of boldness symbolize your heroic commitment to morals, pride and excellence.

Desertion is a cowardly means of escaping the truth of reality. Maybe Mr. Pearsall before he acted that day should have thought long and hard, really pondered his actions before shooting up Liberty City and taking your life, Officer Cook and nearly those of your sincerest of colleagues. Their lives have gone on even with pain from their injuries, while yours ended sadly and so too your integrity, honor and dignity. Al used for a heavenly purpose, to try and keep Dade County safe and tranquil. A tough task. The assignments more larger and the stakes higher. And yet as the stress level increases, your principles, morals and mettle too amped up a notch higher. We will never forget your instincts and ingenuity as they were as good as your humility and vigilance which made the venues more civil. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

As you welcome another member of the police fraternity into heaven , Officer Cook, your family and colleagues know that bright smile and engaging personality will shelter him from harm. Officer Jermaine Brown was from your department, had fifteen years as a public servant, left a wife and children behind. His wife also worked for the agency. He was killed in an ATV accident. I know your dignity, integrity and honor will accentuate his soul into the skies above as he takes humble hold of those angelic wings. The ones you earned for having the fortitude and humility to preserve Dade County lives. A commitment to excellence worth saluting. No better man of character, maturity. wisdom and vision working those perilous roads than yourself. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Absorbing rebuke takes acumen and a sometimes tough skin. But what is necessary is just that. As all honest and brave servants must serve and protect life and property by the same code of ethics and department standards. You performed in an outstanding and most humbly heroic fashion, Officer Cook. Dade County and its folks were serviced by a loving and good natured man of gallantry and character, all the finest of integrity and dignity enabling those of us to live sounder and more secure lives. Humility followed on your trails of tenacity of which ferocity never wavered. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Wickedness leaves more than queasy stomachs. It leaves a trail of bloodshed and terror that can make the work of any dignified public servant that much harder to do. Resolve and effort become tougher. Stress, duress and whatever else needed to stabilize an area becomes more involved. You kept your solemn oath, Officer Cook and transformed Dade County and its residents into a more safe and trusting region. Violence and its ruination can't spell any good and where trouble lurks there you were, Officer Cook, complete with character, honesty and integrity to battle like never before for us. Mankind and humanity felt your gentle wings of boldness and now where you rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero, those humble and heroic wings of bravery are shielding us as God will never allow any more harm to come your way. Keep looking down upon your mother and family.

Inspiration only serves as our motivation to explore and to reach beyond our capacities and capabilities. You strived for peace and serenity here in Dade County, Officer Cook and it was tragic that you could not live on to see your dreams and missions through until you retired. Violence perpetrated by a man bent on evil took your life of honor and humility, dignity, diligence, integrity and intuition. Yet somehow the good Lord has rewarded you for your undying and heroically brave efforts and has provided the impetus for your family members and esteemed colleagues to carry on with your morals and ideals as a part of your legacy which is etched into humanity's hearts and minds. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Your friendly grace, Officer Cook, was the beckoning call to serve and rescue the folks and your comrades calling out for your assistance. Bravery is bounded by honor at one side and integrity and dignity on the other sides. Dade County was well documented for having its episodes of evil and unrest and from that tensions started running high. You came along, Officer Cook and tried your utmost to diffuse a terrible domestic incident on May 16, 1979, doing all in your power to calm down a nasty man whose character escalated into him wanting to shoot and kill police. Sadly, God must have needed your special soul, Officer Cook, in his fortress to watch over your family and professional peers. Mankind and humanity thank you for your heroic deeds of determination. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. The good go to a safer haven where their ingenuity and vision are well preserved.

Reality sometimes strikes when you least expect it to. Dade County experienced outbreaks of terror and torment and when decent and honorable public servants came upon those scenes the public was better served. Your life and career, Officer Cook, meant Dade County's citizens would be protected on a top notch level. You take one's integrity and dignity and pair them with vision and wisdom, you can rest assured that peace and serenity then become a more rational stable. You have been missed, Officer Cook, all these decades later and so many changes which everyone is so sorry you could not witness personally. Your humble character and humility were cherished and for having the loyalty, devotion and motivation, may you rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Esteem and gallantry come forward as do bravery and valor. In some it's inbred in others it takes some more training.

When the cannons are shot, the cannon balls go flying. When violence flies into a community only the good, the prideful and excellently trained men and women shall go out on patrol and try and restore peace. Dade County was always under your greatest supervision, Officer Cook, a man and a superb public servant whose honesty, integrity and dignity were the cornerstones of your humane and humble character. Unity and effort go together and since you have departed from this world, Officer Cook, we have been a little less safer. Just sad, terrible and tragic to have your missions and hopes dashed by a diabolical man bent on heinous evil. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.
