Reflections for Police Officer William Coleman Cook

The gears of gallantry and good grace were set in motion long before your birth, Officer Cook. When your mother, Mrs. Julia Cook, gave birth to you, your big sister, Nancy had a little brother. But, you were more than her darling baby brother and most heroic brother. You were the family member who kept things together in times of crisis and tragedy. After your father, Charles, passed you were there everyday for your mom and the family always looking after your mom's welfare. A resilient man and a more revered legend here in Dade County where peace of mind and secure travels were your rule. Educated and dedicated to perform God's will you strove for excellence in fine character, commitments to your department and colleagues and the finer humility of having composed integrity and gentle wings of dignity. Violence, evil, wickedness, whatever had your greatest attention, Officer Cook. That set you apart and it is precisely why you have been and are forever saluted and so humanely honored for positive reinforcement of our world. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Character is the consolidation and coordination of courage, courtesy and the collaboration of humility. Such humble and humanely heroic actions on your part, Officer Cook, that helped to save Dade County from an already dangerous situation. You fought and gave your soul of honor in order for the citizens to enjoy freedom of movement. A happily married man, cherished son and brother and a most beloved uncle and great-uncle. A great and noble man, Officer Cook, the epitome of exemplary work setting the tone for other brave men and women to follow in your trails of tenacity. Humanity rewards the esteemed and gallant whose legacies are securely cemented within our hearts and minds. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Violence never deterred a very determined spirit. God knows the story and twenty-three thousand other brave and honest stories including those of all K-9 officers who gave their lives.

Mountains are hard to climb. And so is the momentum of evil tough to overcome at times. With honor, effort and resiliency you succeeded, Officer Cook, in conquering an enemy so mean and nasty that Dade County was under such danger when you patrolled its corridors. The folks had a great man of conviction, wisdom and vision contributing to the humility of our streets. Roads paved with peril and you never let your sight, Officer Cook, off of us. Bravery and boldness working hand in hand with honesty, integrity and dignity to lessen the stranglehold of serious trouble that hung like a dark cloud over us. Keep us and your family safe and secure from God's heavenly abode. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Just trust in truth it will lead you to those streams of serenity where a reward awaits.

And your quiet pursuits, Officer Cook, helped to create that bond of goodwill and good cheer for mankind. society is deeply indebted to your heroic character and commitment to pride and honor which in part helped to stave off wickedness. Delegating responsibility is seen as a noble thing in this fight over violence. Though, you performed your duties very well, Officer Cook and kept Dade County and its folks relatively safe and secure. The best intentions were your faithful journeys which you undertook on humanity's behalf. The care and kindness, honor and reverence won't be forgotten and neither will your dignity, character and amazing resolve. Never a more harder worker who took charge of tasks and followed standards that made safety for officers and the residents a top priority. Humility and humbleness permit esteem to lead the way through terror and torment. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Identification is important in this endeavor to care out peace and prosperity. Information is a public servant's best resource in this never ending battle over adversity. You planned and did your part, Officer Cook, maintaining this spirit of serenity for all Dade County. The incorporation of integrity, honesty and dignity made that distinct difference as did your unassuming character and courage. Humanity was served truthfully by your humility. Always saluted and solemnly honored for attitude and fairness to all. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

God never vasillates and never shall we. Stay glued to a certain goal and sooner rather than later you'll reach your likely destination. So in 1954 your family moved to South Florida, Officer Cook, settling in good old North MIami Beach. A place you called home for around twenty-one years married your beloved, Karen and moved elsewhere. You lived near Norland High School because North Miami Beach Senior High School was not yet founded. You joined the Metro-Dade Police Department sometime I believe in 1973 and for six faithful years of humble service gave your all to assist us the citizens in staying safe and living in serenity. A life filled with joy and promise sadly cut way too short by one man's outlandish violence on May 16,1979. Your dignity, Officer Cook, your honest intentions and integrity with unshakeable character was brought to Our Lord's kingdom where among the many unselfish and udying servants now patrols the sacred skies above. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Your career and life, Officer Cook, were not just humble, they were humility and reverence combining forces to liberate us from an assortment of calamities. Never again must we envision this total atrocity being perpetrated against law enforcement. It makes society seem helter and skelter and out of control, out of sync, out of touch with reality. Sadly, where I still reside today here in NMB, it is entirely different and less peaceful than when the Cook's moved here. They have nice families, but too many houses of Jewish worship to keep in tow. Your family was well respected and may very well have been the first family to live on NE 170th Street. I pass your home almost daily and salute your valiant efforts. Always treasured and cherished for loyalty and unrelenting ideals and values. Many of the facets of life.

Waffling and oscillating can never work their charm while focusing on evil. It's straight ahead dignity, honesty and the foundation of integrity. Dreams, goals, realities and aspirations cannot even start to take shape until truth and trust are held accountable. You had a very difficult job, Officer Cook, along with your host of comrades in serving and in protecting Dade County. Fierce battles and perilous times sadly greeted you and your fellow servants. But, like everyday you were optimistic and resigned to getting down to the basics and completing your assigned tasks at hand. Never a moment of doubt crept into your brain. You were affixed on the target and that was to seize terror and remove its jaws from clamping down on the safety and security of a community that admired, revered and cherished your character, conviction and bold commitment to pride and excellence. Lucid and transparent must be the themes and goals of the humble, humane and heroic who practice and preach certain methodologies. Humanity is the source from where their good cheer flows. Humility stays in their heart until the day when God calls them home to that perfect venue where honor and bravery are capsulized. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

The moments after a traumatic loss are devastating . They are surreal. The days, hours, months and years surely are impactful. The loved ones, friends and close personal colleagues have now a lifetime of memories that just seem to be flooding in. The source of one man's dignity, courage, honesty and integrity are drawn from their heart, the foundation of their intuitions and visions which have led them on their chosen professional career and given pursuits. You made Dade County, Officer Cook, a reference for a fine and upstanding public service position. You gave your life in the performance of your duties to enable a semblance of hope and harmony to take its shape and form. We unfortunately won't see your smiling presence, that's wrapped tightly around Our Creator's large arms of mercy and compassion for all. Your spirit can be vividly seen lighting up the deep blue skies. That is the humility and the ultimate realization of your fortitude toward our world. Humanity not only salutes you, it thanks you and your family for sharing you with mankind forever. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. A collection, a collage of a man's heroism distributed to society. A haunting reminder of the dangers and perils that are associated with the cause of police work. Never forget!

Dade County is a large area requiring the forces of many brave, honest and intellectual women and men protecting and preserving life and property. Dade County with all its scenery and sights and sounds, still has some scary times with evil and mayhem lurking in the weeds. It was up to you, Officer Cook, to trim and prune their trees and bushes of their terror. To hunt and fight with your unwavering might every potential roadblock that would impede the flow of ferocity and good cheer for mankind. You take a man;s cunning resolve and unlimited supply of resourcefulness and mesh it together with his decent devotion to duty, his dignity and integrity to compose himself at all times with scruples and humility. The very same basic training is required of all officers and recruits. It's very sad so many dying from illnesses in the line of duty. Though, we try to understand that Our Creator only takes the very soundest, the humblest and the most honored heroes to their next destination for a more difficult and challenging task. You shoot and kill any police officer that penalty has got to be the harshest, the severest and the stiffest for what you did. To undo the honesty and to demean the integrity and character of any public servant would be sinister and like an execution of the public trust, truth and justice for all. Tenacity is never to be scorned at. Resolve is not to be devalued. Morals and refined character are not to be forgotten. Your life and public service career, Officer Cook, was entrusted to you as a symbol of serenity and hopeful courage on behalf of Dade County, society, mankind and humanity preserved by a face of humility , candor and its verbalization of messages and lessons now being passed down from Our King's court. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.
