There can be no vacancy in a hero's valor, virtue and vigilance. It must be applied at all times along with common sense, honesty and the integrity of dignity. Every January 1st at midnight a ball drops from Times Square in New York. And everyday or so it appears violence drops a wrecking ball upon our very captivated society. It's never pretty and its torment weighs down on us like an anvil that drops its sheer force on us.Looking to usurp its callousness and heinous acts of cowardness, your role, Officer Cook, was to see Dade County and its people through this massive chaos and mayhem. Instilled with a gentle spirit of persuasion and a heart of honor, integrity and the knowledge that integrity brings how could one go wrong? Nearly forty-six years ago you began your childhood journeys, missions of devoutness and reliability to act responsibly to return calmness and desire to all whom you preserved, protected and served most admirably. Never forgotten and solemnly saluted and praised for performing a labor of love and esteem. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero.

Police work is never about a pecking order. You don't get to pick and choose like a banquet hall. You are given your daily assignments at roll call and then as God helps you navigate from point to point and from venue to venue, the hopes of your family and department are that you'll succeed, accomplish and return home safe and sound. Serenity is like a bird chirping. Parrots make loud noises the very same way violence looks to wreck its upheaval upon a society hunting for humanely taciturn days and nights. Your mission, Officer Cook, was to focus on Dade County and to generate freedom, goodwill and humility upon our doorsteps. It will always be sad that a sergeant knocked on your mother's door and she answered "it's my Billy." I do hope she is well today and everyday and know Mrs. Cook, that your swaying cross on your porch of your home on NE 170th St. demonstrated your humble faith, loyalty and esteem to Our Maker and Master. Your son was dedicated and fiercely cherished to make a difference in how humanity lives forever. Rest in peace, Officer Cook, my neighbor, friend and hero.
