Reflections for Officer Gerald Eugene Cline

Gerry was a mentor to me when I was a baby Assistant District Attorney in Albuquerque. He was a fine officer, and one who upheld very high standards of conduct. What I learned from him and working on cases with him was that his approach to citizens as a person who wanted to deconstruct a problem rather than rely on authority was what I came to consider the best way of doing things. He was no friend to persons who was hurting others, or showing no inclination to discontinue conduct that would be dangerous to any other person, but he had sense, smarts and kindness that made it a pleasure to work with, and passed on important lessons about using the law both in a courtroom and on the street to see justice done. I can't pass a certain motel without thinking of the loss to our community and tennis courts his death occasioned.

We never met but I feel like I’ve known you forever Jerry. Your wife Yolanda is one of my best friends and has done a lot for me over the years. I’ve met all your children as well. She did a wonderful job raising them. You would be proud of what they’ve become. Especially GT. He may have had a few bumps in his teens, but he has become one fine young man and someone I am proud to know. They all miss you but they carry on your faith and family.
Thank you for sharing them with me.

Received Jodi Thomas's book "Indigo Lake" on Friday & finished it Saturday morning.
"Indigo Lake" is dedicated to you & to your Blue Family that keeps us safe 24/7.
Still can't believe, even after seeing your name in print, that a minor character was named in your honor.
Still can't believe that you will be in Jodi's short story coming out in October, where her "Jerry Cline" character will have an expanded role.
What an honor for your name to appear in a book!
But it was the life you lived, Jerry, the way you loved your GOD, your Family & your Friends that should be honored. You were a wonderful man by the way you lived. Being HIS child is all the honor anyone needs.
You are still missed by those you loved!

Sharron,
Praise GOD I thought to look on Jerry's page today!
Life has been busy this spring with many COPS activities, family things & life.
Praise GOD you are now on the contact list for each coming Parole Board Hearing. It is very important for the PB to hear that I am not the only one who fears the release of the prisoner.
Standing together we can make a difference in today & the days to come. The past has changed all of us. I pray we are becoming all that HE planned for each of us before the beginning of time.
I know for sure I am here, at this plan in time, in this location to daily strive to help others, to change lives & to share the blessings I receive in abundance from our FATHER.
Pray for your health. Pray for your family. We never asked to walk this path together. But being an encouragement, support & in pray is what HE wants from HIS children.
THANK YOU!

Your killer should not be eligible for parole, he should be grateful for having his life spared and that should be his only big break

There are three types of people in this world: sheep, wolves, and sheepdogs. Some people prefer to believe that evil doesn't exist in the world and if it ever darkened their doorstep, they wouldn't know how to protect themselves. Those are the sheep. Then you've got predators, who use violence to prey on the weak. They're the wolves. And then there are those blessed with the gift of aggression, an overpowering need to protect the flock. These men are the rare breed who live to confront the wolf. They are the sheepdog. …You know who you are. You know your purpose.

Yolanda, thanks for sharing Sharron's comments. Jerry was a great guy and we were on the same team back in the 70's. He was always happy and wanted to learn everything he could. It was nice visiting with you at APD when the ICPC chaplains were meeting in Albuquerque. Carol and I work at NPW every May. If you are every at NPW would love to connect with you again. God bless and keep up the good work for Jerry.

My love for my job, my work ethic, and my intense belief that it is a privilege to wear a badge was ingrained in me from the very start because of Jerry. I was blessed to have him as my first training officer and I owe so much of my success to him. I will never forget you my friend.

Jerry,

You mentored me well. You taught me to never take anything for granted. I was a rookie officer and you and I had many conversations about life before you were senselessly gunned down. I handled probably one of your last calls with you. You taught me much in that time working the graveyard shift in SE Albuquerque, I in turn have, as an academy instructor, field training officer, supervisor and commanding officer and college professor shared your story with countless numbers of police recruits, veteran officers, students and citizens, I now work hard to ensure justice for the victims of crimes, in those cases I prosecute, as a Special Prosecutor,,, your legacy lives on through the lives you touched.

I wish I could have warned you, I wish I had know where he was, but I just knew he was out of my mom and dads life, and I was truly grateful for that. I'm sorry for what he did to you Officer Cline, and Im Sorry that your family had to go thru life without you.
I will do everything g in my power to keep him in jail where he belongs. Please rest in peace knowing that his family is truly remorseful, even though I know he is not. I refuse to name his name because he has not existed in my life for more than the time he has been in jail.

Rest in Peace Sir, I will never forget, when I'm gone, my children will not forget either.
