David worked as a jailer and I worked as a dispatcher when I started back in 1979. We were friends and David was a great and very nice officer. Liked by everyone. Was very sad that morning when I went to work and found out that he had been killed. DA at that time did'nt have the guts to charge the young man that forced David's patrol unit off of roadway. Will always remember and think you. God bless and God be with you.

David was my friend, we grew up together. He went to work at Shawnee about the same time I did at Tecumseh. I was sitting the desk and listened to every minute of the pursuit in which he was murdered. I say murder because it was an intentional attack on the part of the other driver that killed him. I took Shawnee's senior officers to his parent house the next morning, they wouldn't let me stay. This was a very hard time for me, both as a police officer and a family friend. David was a good friend, a fine man, a fine police officer. He was taken from us far too soon and justice was NEVER served. I'll never forget him.

David, I think about you almost everyday of my life, and I visit your grave site every time I visit Oklahoma. I will never forget the friendship we formed as we rode as a 2 man unit on nights. Many times I reflect on what might have been different if I had not transferred to day shift just 1 week prior to you death. Again you are always in my thoughts brother in blue!

David I named my son after you. You and him write the same and he has that twinkle like yours in his eye. I miss you and know the promise that God gave us that we will be together again . Looking forward to that.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 33rd anniversary year of your death. I am priviliged to be among the first to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.
I pray for solace for all those that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. Thanks to your friends for sharing their devotion to you through their reflections.

David
After thirty two years I still miss you man. I remember the dispatcher calling me the morning after. I couldn't believe you were gone. I still miss you. One of the proudest moments of my life was giving the eulogy at your funeral. I went to the Highway Patrol as we planned. Did that and retired. Love you brother. Wish you had retired with me.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Having worked at Shawnee Police Department , I know the story of this loss . My only wish is that the person responsible for this needs to come forward and face up to his or her responsibility and know that the truth will set you free. My sympathy continues to go out to the Clark family for their loss, but I know their memory of
David is strong even after 27 years.

While I was still in school visiting my grandparents in OK for the summer I remember listening to this event on a scanner as it unfolded. It was unbelieveable. I later became a Police Officer in CA and stories like this always guided me as I was in similar situations.
Your service and your sacrifice will always be rememberd. God Bless those you left behind.

Brother Clark,
May the road rise up to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
And the rains fall soft upon your fields,
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
Respectfully,

David you were a great young officer and I was proud to be your supervisor at this tragic time. You have not and will not ever be forgotten by those of us fortunate enough to have known and worked with you. I'm proud to say that you have my old badge number. Keep smiling and know we miss you.
