Reflections for Patrolman Harry Charlton, III
Harry Charlton . . . you are a hero and a warrior. In life you were highly respected by all your colleagues . . . especially as a traffic enforcement officer. I met you while a senior at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA. I was doing my internship with the Richmond Police Department. You were so professional . . . tall and strong, with an impressive command presence. Even in death, you saved the life of another police officer. The night you made the "last traffic stop", the man who murdered you drove North into Chesterfield County (VA). Shortly afterwords, he was stopped for speeding by a Chesterfield County Police Officer, then released. A few days later, when he was arrested by Richmond Police Detectives, he stated that he would have shot the Chesterfield County Police Officer too, but had discarded the revolver after having shot you. You are a blue angel now Harry . . . at peace with our heavenly Father . . . your name is still spoken with honor in Richmond, Virginia. With brotherly love and respect, Jim Crotty (Former Richmond, VA Policeman)
Special Agent Jim Crotty
