To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 79th anniversary year of your death. I am priviliged to be among the first to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

God Bless you Chapman family,

One of the Lane sisters, who was 11 yrs old that day and now my elderly neighbor of almost 90, said that her mother wept for months and months after this horrible incident. Ms Lane's son repented of his sins and accepted Christ as his saviour while on Death Row several months before his electrocution. It was a very, very grievous ordeal for an otherwise good, hard working Lane family.
Officer Chapman, you were such a young man and did not deserve to die that day. Thank you for your service.
God Richly Bless all the Chapman Family these many years later.

To clear this up a little these were my fathers Brothers who did the shootings. There were 12 brothers and sisters in this Lane family my father being the second youngest! Age 7 born Dec 23 1927. He would not speak of this until we got older then to say only this is the reason I never want to see my children in trouble! Most family members left the Texas area to get away from this tragic event. Again May God Bless the Cecil Chapman Family, and his continuing Legacy!

I want to let any living family member or friend to Cecil Chapman to know that I am truly sorry to know of his death, This was a tragic ordeal for all involved. I am trying to learn and understand my family history and what happened that fateful day. My father was only seven when it happened and remembers very little of the facts, and would never talk of it. It was a difficult thing to have happen to your family. I know Cecil must have been a dedicated Sheriff and wonderful husband and Father. I am truly sorry

I did a lot of my growing up running around the area where this occurred and had never heard this story.
Deputy Cecil Vincent Chapman will be forever remembered as a true American hero. May God keep safe from harm the men and women of the Dallas County Sheriff's Department.
I'd like to say thanks to the ODMP for their hard work.
