Reflections for Park Ranger James Alexander Cary
Officer Cary left behind a family much too soon. His son, the recently deceased James Cary, of Dallas,TX, continued his father’s tradition of military service. His son was a greatly respected gentleman whom was like a second father to me. Officer Cary wasn’t around to see his son achieve adulthood, marry the love of his life and raise two wonderful daughters. Officer Cary’s death left a hole in the family, but his legacy has been carried on and will never be forgotten. Thank you for the memorial in Hot Springs, AR.

James Cary was my great uncle. I too, have the blessing of knowing my uncle, James (Jim) Cary who lives in Dallas. Jim was just a young child when his father's life was taken in the line of duty. I tracked this fateful story by doing our family genealogy. I received a great amount of information regarding my great uncle, the men accused of the act of taking James Cary's life, and the trial. I was able to share the written story with my uncle. I left a copy in Hot Springs shortly before the memorial was dedicated. I appreciate Superintendent Josie Fernandez and each of the National Park Staff for pursuing the story of James Cary and for honoring him with such a humbling memorial. It means so much not to just the family, but to the rangers who followed James.

Thank you Superintendent Josie Fernandez and the Hot Springs National Park staff for honoring Jim Cary who died in the line of duty in 1927. I'm fortunate to know his 94-year-old son Jim who lives in Dallas. Ranger Cary gave his life attempting to protect the national park. As a former seasonal park ranger while in college and an individual who grew up in Hot Springs, I thank the National Park Service for this tribute to a dedicated ranger.
