Willard N. Carver was running for the office of sheriff. I remember him so well. He had come into the newspaper office to have some campaign materials printed, and I had talked to him just hours before he was shot. He would have been a good sheriff.

June 23 1952 your watch ended with a exhibition of courage and bravery. Your leaving us this day on the date of my birth closed a chapter in law enforcement history, but opened a knew one with my convictions towards carrying the torch of justice to the best of my abilities.
