Reflections for Officer John Arthur Carrillo
Yo...
It's been a long time, bro. I'm new to the website, but we go way back, huh? Lots of softball games, backing you up on the street, cheering for your various exploits... and, uh... I kinda wonder about how you got all those killer scores on the bowling lanes (maybe your math isn't all that.) Still, I remember you in the best of ways; that strong and accurate left arm into the infield where we nailed alot of guys trying to stretch it out into extra bases, the smile (need I say more more?), unwavering back-up to your brothers (who are all guys I still love and respect), great dad to your daughter, great son to your parents, incredibly strong for Mary Ann, and a guy who always made me crack up. It was a pleasure and an honor to be with you in the dugout/on the field, on the street, and at Chelsea Street/Natalie St.
Love and Respect,
Chris

Hello John-
I knew you in the late 70's at St. Pius. I was in your sister Kathy's grade and I used to party a bit with you and Rick Kontizer. You were always so nice and friendly. I remember how devastated we all were when Sean died, and then we lost you a year later. Your smile was infectious. Just seeing your picture again reminded me how very kind you were. You are missed here. Say hello to my mom.

John,
I can't believe how time has flown! Derek has grown into a fine young man. I remember the many nights we would play board games at Grandma Bea's before your shift, and I still think of you every time I eat a Domino's Pizza. You may be gone, but your presence is still with us, in our memories, our hearts, and our dreams. A piece of you lives on in all who knew you, and you will never be forgotten! We Love You!

J.C. I still remember the first time you came in as a rookie officer for one of my shoplifters, you were so sharp from head to toe. I enjoyed the breaks when you would stop by and lunches, god that hot sauce! When I heard we lost you had moved to AZ and found out on a cop show that ran your story. My heart broke for your boy, family and friends. Now at 45 yrs. old and coming off a injury the thought of you that first time I met you still clear to me is an inspiration to go for my dream of being a Police Officer either in AZ or NM.. I miss you John.

John,
While visiting Albuquerque in the Fall of 1981, I had the privilege and honor of riding with you on patrol. I was so very impressed with you, my Brother Officer, John Carrillo. You were a young, aggressive, courteous, well - rounded police officer. Your interest and love of the "job" was apparent. It would be hard to count the times, I have thought of my evening ride and conversations with you.
In the Spring of 1987, I received a letter from your sister, Mary Ann, saying that you had been killed in the line of duty. Her letter was written in such a manner; that I still remember her words to this day. I was devastated.
The officers of my department felt compelled, to demonstrate by example, to the public and all police officers present and future, that the Blue Brotherhood does care, does feel hurt and does not forget.
We decided on a plaque, which would show the police devotion to duty, country and by way of the "Policeman's Prayer", to God. Albuquerque Deputy Chief Galapagos sent me his badge to add to your plaque. There are many vivid memories arriving in Albuquerque and presenting the memorial plaque at your Department's Headquarters.
Our hopes are that your memory will be kept alive in the hearts of those who knew you and will inspire those who have not yet accepted the call to THE "blue."
John, please remember, there is a blue brotherhood, that knows no state boundaries. We all feel hurt at the loss of a brother. I will always remember that evening on patrol in Albuquerque, New Mexico with my Brother, John Carrillo. You were kind and treated me as if I was your "partner" that evening. Your actions have etched a place in my memory that will never be erased! Rest in Peace my friend and know you will never be forgotten.

John, I honor your memory every day when I walk by your picture in the NE substation. I dedicate each of my tours of duty to you so that I might show honor and respect for the ultimate sacrifice you made that fateful night. God bless, brother. Please welcome Mike and Rich to their eternal rest and say hi to my Dad, a former officer, and all the other officers I worked with over the years who are up there with you.

Dear Officer John Carrillo,
I doubt you remember me, but I remember you. You had a hand in making me who I have become. I was 16 years old and bowling with my dad on a league. Your brother, George, and dad bowled on the same league. I used to listen to the stories of police work with utter fascination. I vividly remember the moment I learned you had been killed. I was in computer class at Eldorado High. I felt extreme loss. I cried. No, sobbed would be more accurate. On that day, February 23, 1987, I knew that I had to become a police officer. You were, you are my hero. I think of you often. God Bless you and your family.

Hey John,
You were my first training officer and I still remember a lot of what you taught me. Even to this day I still put that parking brake on as I get out of the vehicle. And actually there has been a few times I have come back and my car was still in drive like you said would happen. Just wanted you to know I still think about you and that you are missed.

Hey Kid,
Unfortunately, another APD officer headed your way. Just as you did on the streets, take Jeff and show him the way.
Rest in Peace Brother John!
