To the family and friends of Officer Carrillo,
I was seven years old when this brave man passed away...I am so sorry for your loss and pray that you will know peace...Officer Carrillo was obviously a kind and decent man. As the son of a NJ State Trooper, I followed a different path and went to law school, but I recently took a job with a police agency in PA. as a civilian...I will hold your son's memory in my heart as I support those on the thin blue line.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 22nd anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you coontinue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
To John's Mom: I share your anquish in losing a beloved child which I believe is life's greatest sorrow. Time never diminishes a mother's love. You are in my heart's embrace today. May God grant you solace.
Rest In Peace, John. You are so handsome in your picture. I am sorry you were robbed of your life at such a young age.

Dear John,
The Class of '78 had a 30th reunion at the end of June. You were remembered fondly in Coach Ron Tybor's slide show.
To see pictures of all of us reminds me of how incredibly young we were - and how your sense of humor and beautiful smile are forever imprinted in my memory.
As a citizen of Albuquerque thank you for protecting us and making the sacrifice that you did. God bless you and your family.

Dear John,
It seems like only yesterday that we walked the halls of the old Saint Pius X High School on Louisiana. You always had a warm smile for all those you passed to and from classes. But that was 30 years ago and its almost time for your reunion, which brings me to the point of my e-mail.
The Saint Pius X Quarterly published a list of names of the class of 1978 of students that were "missing" and your name was on that list. It would seem that the ultimate sacrifice that you paid to protect the Albuquerque Community is all but forgotten. It is my goal to challenge everyone within the Saint Pius X High School Community to memorialize in some way all our fallen heroes like yourself amongst the firefighters, law enforcement and the military. I feel that we must pay tribute to what you and others like you have done for us all.
Please pray for my success in this endeavor and may God bless you always for trying to make Albuquerque a safer place to live.

You were my daddy's training officer 20+ years ago!!! I was only 6 when you were killed- but i can remember it like it was yesterday. I thank you for all you did to train my dad to be the best cop he could be and teach him things to protect him. As tragic as your death was my dad wore his vest from then on (something he did not really do before hand). i know my dad thinks of you everyday as do i. i am as you were now and that makes me think of just how young you really were (hard to comprehend at 6). you are remembered by all and your contribution to us all is never forgotten.

I was a reporter at KOB Radio when Officer Carrillo was tragically killed. I want his family and friends to know he is not forgotten. Every time I hear again about an officer's end of watch, I remember this brave young policeman. May he continue to watch over all of us.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Dear John,
You are very missed around this home. Although your not here we can all feel you and MaryAnnes love in the air. The pictures and remiders of you surround us everyday. Its hard for Grandpa,Grandma,Benny, Mike, George, Mark, and even my mom without you here. You can see it in the way they talk, and the look in thier eyes when they think about you. I wish I had time with you even if just for a moment. A while back for thier 60th aniversery I had made Bea and Ben a scrapbook with all of the pictures that had been taken over the years. I saw alot of life that had happend and all of the memories of you, Mary Anne and the whole entire family. It was sad, yet great to be able to see parts of you and things you did that I had never even thought of. Derek is good, I havent seen him in while but from what I know he is playing Collage baseball which seems real exciting. Everyone else is okay for the most part. We all need a little help once in a while but we look to eachother to find that help. Our family is much bigger than when you left, but we all stick together. We help out and get through all of it together and I love that we do. Well it is thanksgiving today and I would like to say that I am thankful for my family, friends, and you and Mary Anne for being the biggest heros in my life. Thank you for being here in spirt, and know that we all miss and Love you.
Your biggest fan,
Kyrstin
