Daddy,
I have always missed you, but since Mama died the feeling is greater. My kids are growing their families and have these remarkable lives to live. Don Michael is your name sake. He has two children and a wife that loves him and takes care of him. He served our country for 8 years and is now learning a brand new vocation. He's not afraid to put himself out there, just as I imagine you had no fear in service...its just what you did and it came from your heart. Aaron is a sweet, genuine person. My mother in law says there is nothing fake about him and she's right. He has an excellent work ethic and studied criminal justice for a while. He's expecting his first kiddo, which would make you Great Grandpa to 4! Bekah is my baby. The princess and ruler of the roost. She's a mighty defender and one you need in your corner! She has so many gifts, I can't wait to see how she grows them. She's a momma and going to be a wife soon. I wish you and Momma were here to celebrate with us on earth....I have a feeling that I'll see a pair of cardinals on her wedding day though.

Love you always,
Donna

Hey Grandpa, it's your granddaughter Rebekah. I never had the amazing pleasure to get to know you, but I just want you to know that I know you are an amazing man who did so much for his family and his community. My mom was always so good about telling us stories about you, stories she was told, and I'm just beyond honored to be able to say that you are my grandfather. I have a 4 year old son who I know would have LOVED to meet you. Grandma is so cute with him, and whenever we go visit he brings a light to her eye, the same light I imagine you would have. I love you so much grandpa and you will NEVER be forgotten.

My Dad and Don use to be good friends and our families use to get together back then, I was 6 years old when this happened and as Don and my Dad were my heroes this scared me very much. To this day I still have the same reaction when an officer is killed in the line of duty. I was and still am very sorry for his loss. The world lost a great man.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the forty- eighth anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

Rest In Peace.

Dad,
I cannot tell you how much we miss you. APD placed a memorial near the site here you were shot. It is beautiful and appropriately enough it was placed on your birthday. There were many people there and we got to meet your partner Bobby Sides. He told us the story about the night you were shot and I have to say that it brought peace to me....I love and miss you every day. You will never be forgotten.
