Reflections for Deputy Sergeant Martin Shields, Jr.

Rest in Peace my brother.

Captain (Ret.) Bernard Flint
Department of Defense / Police Division

The dangers of a career in law enforcement are evident in the death of Sergeant Shields, a trained and skilled officer and yet his death occurs when involved in a mundane, everyday action. Obviously, there are no such moments in the life of a police officer. My grief is compounded by several deaths in recent days in Virginia and Pennsylvania. Stay vigilant my brothers and sisters.

NYPD Retired

I never understood a cowards way of thinking, they take the life of an innocent officer who’s doing his job and the coward wants to kill themself in order to escape justice, it’s sickening and heartbreaking. When will this stop? Innocent officers everyday doing their job to protect the community ends up dying after the suspect takes their life, it doesnt make sense and it’s not fair to the officers family or loved ones. My thoughts and prayers are with this department and their family. Your death will not be in vain. Rest well your brothers in red have the watch from here

Lord our God, you are always faithful and quick to show mercy. Our Brother-in-Blue, Deputy Sergeant Martin Shields, Jr., of the Hinds County MS Sheriff's Office, was suddenly and violently taken from us; Shot & Killed in the Line-of-Duty. Come swiftly to his aid, have mercy on him, and comfort his family, friends, and comrades by the power and protection of the cross. I ask this through Christ Jesus, our Lord, and by His Holy Name and Authority, I pray. Amen.

"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God." (Matthew 5:9 ESV)

"Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends." (John 15:13 ESV)

"Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted." (Matthew 5:4 ESV)
