The true measure of a person
is not found in the
might of their arm,
their wealth
or their power –
it is found in the strength
of their character.
There is no greater testimony to
ones character, than ones
willingness to sacrifice all,
in the noble quest of
providing protection to all
whom they serve.

"Somebody killed a policeman today,
And a part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect
Will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect who shot him will stand up in court,
With counsel demanding his rights,
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids
And spend alone many long nights.
The beat that he walked was a battlefield, too,
Just as if he'd gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
To his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
It happened in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line.
Now, his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
And he stands at each new rookie's side.
He answered the call and gave us his all,
And a part of America died."

Detective Reddins, our world is full of evil people, and yet, for many years, you dedicated your life to protecting others that they may be safe. Our Lord, who sees all and knows all, will reward you abundantly for your courage, dedication and selfless service. My heart breaks for the sorrow that your loved ones are experiencing. May God immerse you and them in His Divine Mercy. Rest in peace, good and faithful servant.

It is sad to lose anyone who’s put their lives on the line to save the ones of strangers, it even of the ones who just tried to kill you!
The saddest part, unfortunately, it isn’t seeing these officers losing their lives so young, everyday, everywhere, but the fact or society can’t fathom the sacrifice it takes to be an officer! You sacrifice yourself and your family, knowing that very few will appreciate the world we do.
RIP detective Reddins, knowing that beyond your loved ones, at least the ones who care and understand, honor and cherish the moments spent at your presence, keeping you alive in their memories and repeating the gestures of kindness you’ve offered to all!
God may find you the best seat in the house, and lay His hand on yours until the day we all get together!

I had the honor to work with you for a few years on the special operations unit before you took a lateral job with Oak Park. Once you started your new job i was not surprised at all that you became a detective in no-time. As a new officer at Metra, you took the time to help me when needed and shared your wisdom. You were a great friend and officer, and i will always remember the times we had together. Miss you Redd.
