Reflections for Police Officer Cooper Dawson

Our thoughts and prayers are with the immediate family of Police Officer Cooper Dawson and the extended law enforcement family of the Greenville Police Department, Texas.

Rest in Peace brother and watch over us. We will protect and serve from here on in your honor.

I fight not for glory or fame, for they are momentary. I fight for those who can't. I fight for Justice. I fight for the oppressed and the down trodden. And if I should lose my life for these just causes, then I have no regrets, For I serve to protect the innocent. It matters not where or when, for evil knows no boundaries. Be it fire, flood, or the threat of tyranny, I will not flee. Justice is my weapon. Faith is my shield. Hope is my armor. Cry not at my passing, for it was my Honor to fight for you. Shed not tears of sorrow, but tears of joy, for now, I stand with God.

"The Final Inspection"
The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges
can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

Heavenly Father, Lord our God, you are always faithful and quick to show mercy. Our brother, Police Officer Cooper Dawson, of the Greenville TX Police Department, was suddenly and violently taken from us; Shot & Killed in the "Line-of-Duty". Come swiftly to his aid, have mercy on him, and comfort his family, friends, and colleagues by the power and protection of the cross. In the mighty and holy Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and by His authority, I pray. Amen.

Scripture Verses of Hope, Comfort, and Support from "The Law Enforcement Officer's Bible":

"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons [children] of God." [Matthew 5:9 CSB];

"No one has greater love than this: to lay down his life for his friends." [John 15:13 CSB]

"Truly I tell you, today you will be with me [Jesus Christ] in paradise." [Luke 23:43 CSB], and;

"Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted." [Matthew 5:4 CSB].

In times of loss, we come together to honor the memory and service of those who have passed. It's a moment to reflect on the impact they've had on the lives of others, and the legacy they leave behind. Their dedication and service will always be remembered, and their spirit will continue to inspire. May comfort find its way to you and all those mourning this loss.

Rest easy Dawson. I will cherish the memories I have of us goofing around and being brothers. I'm so proud of you for achieving your dream and becoming a police officer. And now, a hero. Your bravery and courage will not be forgotten. You always came to work ready and prepared and were able to make us laugh like nonother. I hope that your family and children will be able to hold onto your memory and comfort each other. Their daddy IS a hero. You were the Michelangelo of our ninja turtle band of brothers. I will miss you my friend. Enjoy those chocolate chip pancakes in the sky.
