You were the most talented and motivated Officer I have had the privilege to lead and mentor. You taught me much in such a short time. I will miss your infectious smile, and the contagious confidence you brought to everyone. You made us all better by being present. Officers strived to match your ability and drive, you brought the best out of your supervisors. I was at peace any time I knew you were responding to a call, I knew you could handle anything thrown at you. You will live on forever in the soul of our family. God rest your soul, we’ll take your watch from here brother.

Still no words and a lot of ups and downs. Laughing, crying, anger, heartbreak for the family. He was my little brother. He would call for advice but only listened half the time (dammit Coop) is what i always told him when he didn’t listen. Always told me i was a good FTO, but the truth is, Coop you are an exceptional man and police officer you tested the best in all of us and that brought out the best in everyone you worked with. Officer Dawson, a police officer should be remembered not by how he died but by how he lived! A brave man has left to secure a safe path for the rest of us to follow. Thank you for your military and 7 years of commitment to law enforcement, your family, and the Greenville Police Department. Our country is a little less safe without you. Rest in Peace, Brother!

A Hero. Never wavering for a moment to protect the community from a dangerous individual even after being injured by gunfire. Stopping the perpetrator from escaping and causing further harm. A selfless man who puts on his uniform each shift knowing the unexpected and unpredictable is possible. Unwavering in his dedication to his community and family. A Blue Line Hero. My heart swells with pride and breaks at the same time.

Rest easy Officer Cooper Dawson. We will always remember to say your name and never allow you to be forgotten. I thank you for your service to our country and your communities. Your children will be able to grow up proud of the father who lived to protect them fiercely with unfalterring love.
Prayers of comfort to your families of Blood and Blue, and to all those who came to know and love your engaging smile.
