Maryland’s parole and probation agents are courageous, dedicated, professionals who are deeply invested in making our communities safer places for all of us to live, work and raise families. Successful supervision culminates with an individual ready to be a law-abiding, productive member of the community.

Agent Martinez’s commitment to safer, healthier, more economically sustainable communities came to a sudden and tragic end on May 31, 2024. May his memory serve as a tribute to his exemplary service and his support for his colleagues.

Sending my deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and colleagues. Rest in peace, Agent Martinez.

Director (retired), Maryland Division of Parole and Probation, 2000-2007

Do not stand
By my grave, and weep.
I am not there,
I do not sleep—
I am the thousand winds that blow
I am the diamond glints in snow
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle, autumn rain.
As you awake with morning’s hush,
I am the swift, up-flinging rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight,
I am the day transcending night.
Do not stand
By my grave, and cry—
I am not there,
I did not die. Agent Martinez is only relocating. He is 10-7 with us , but present in eternal form.

R.I.P Brother in blue gone, but never forgotten or lost. With a heavy heart and a lot of love your Parole and Probation Family

I didn't know you personally but we are family regardless. There's an emptiness I feel because this was a first and different than any loss I've ever experienced and more difficult to wrap my head around. I find myself just randomly praying for your family and friends for comfort that only God can give. I pray that God does not let your death be in vain. You'll never be forgotten and always celebrated.

Rest well Agent Davis Martinez.

Agent Martinez is the first and hopefully the last Maryland Parole and Probation Agent killed in the line of duty. His death illustrates the safety risks facing Maryland agents as they attempt to hold criminals responsible for their behavior while armed only with a phone and pepper spray. Changes need to be made. The safety of employees needs to be prioritized.
