I had the privilege of working with Joshua Briese during his time as an officer at the Arizona Department of Corrections ASPC PHX /Alhambra complex

He was always a joy to be around, known for his pleasant demeanor and his ability to make people laugh. In high-pressure situations,

Joshua was often one of the first to step in and assist his fellow officers, demonstrating remarkable courage.

It's heartbreaking to see the loss of such a dedicated officer. Joshua gave his life in service to his community, just as he did every day at the Arizona Department of Corrections.

His commitment to protecting others was unwavering, and his absence is deeply felt by all who knew him.

Officer Briese was such an amazing young man. He was always ambitious and willing to learn. His love for law enforcement was tremendous. I had the pleasure of working with him at the Arizona Department of Corrections while he was an officer. Rest easy brother. We got it from here.

I had the honor of meeting Josh and interviewing him in 2020 for the Traumas of Law Enforcement class in Bozeman, MT. He was a panelist on our survivor panel, representing the perspective of an adult child of a fallen officer. Seeing Josh following his dad's path into law enforcement is a source of pride and strength. Seeing that Josh laid down his life, as did his dad, well, there are no words. I honor Josh's faithful service and mourn his loss. Prayers for the Briese family and all who knew both men.

Officer Briese, a police officer should be remembered not by how he died but by how he lived! A brave man has left to secure a safe path for the rest of us to follow. Thank you for your year of commitment to law enforcement service, to your family, and to the Gila River Department. Our country is a little less safe without you. You are on patrol in eternity with your Dad now. Rest in Peace Brother!
