Reflections for Police Officer Jacob Derbin

"Somebody killed a policeman today,
And a part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect
Will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect who shot him will stand up in court,
With counsel demanding his rights,
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids
And spend alone many long nights.
The beat that he walked was a battlefield, too,
Just as if he'd gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
To his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
It happened in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line.
Now, his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
And he stands at each new rookie's side.
He answered the call and gave us his all,
And a part of America died."

Lord Jesus, as we watch our nation's brave peace officers succumb to the wicked and evil in this world, it becomes increasingly difficult for us to pick up and move forward. Our communities are already on the brink of exploding with tension over national and worldwide current events. In light of America's Peace Officers who are no longer with us, I pray for patience and endurance for our communities and law enforcement agencies. Lord Jesus, carry us through this time of civil unrest and strife, that through our struggles, our bonds may grow even more unbreakable. In Your might and holy Name, and by Your authority, I pray. Amen.

Another brave young man that looses his life answering the call. God have mercy on his soul and count his works, deeds towards his road to heaven. Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Please accept this humble prayer to give strength to the parents, family and friends for this loved one who have departed to your arms and have left a void that can only be filled with your supernatural strong feeling of affection which is love. Rest in peace blue, RIP.
