The true measure of a person
is not found in the
might of their arm,
their wealth
or their power –
it is found in the strength
of their character.

There is no greater testimony to
ones character, than ones
willingness to sacrifice all,
in the noble quest of
providing protection to all
whom they serve.

"Somebody killed a policeman today,
And a part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect
Will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect who shot him will stand up in court,
With counsel demanding his rights,
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids
And spend alone many long nights.
The beat that he walked was a battlefield, too,
Just as if he'd gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
To his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
It happened in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line.
Now, his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
And he stands at each new rookie's side.
He answered the call and gave us his all,
And a part of America died."

The Lord asked for those willing to put a badge on and if needed sacrifice their own life. You heard the call and tried your best to protect others. Your wife, sons and friends will be comforted by the sea of blue.

It doesn't feel real that we lost you yesterday and that you leave a young family behind just like I would if it had been me. You always managed the platoon well and you were a committed, no-nonsense NCO. You were driven and never took the easy way out. You spent your entire adult life protecting the public. Your loss is tragic, but none of us are far behind. We are all just passing through. I will be praying for you and your family.

Officer Eyer,

I'm saddened to learn of this terrible tragedy. This has been a horrible month for law enforcement in our nation. We have lost far too many law enforcement officials to violence and senseless accidents. I will pray for your wife and son. Three years of age is far too young to lose a father. I will also pray for your friends, loved ones, family and colleagues. Rest in peace.

Greater love has no one than this, that a person will lay down his life for his friends. - John 15:13
