"Somebody killed a policeman today,
And a part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect
Will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect who shot him will stand up in court,
With counsel demanding his rights,
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids
And spend alone many long nights.
The beat that he walked was a battlefield, too,
Just as if he'd gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
To his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
It happened in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line.
Now, his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
And he stands at each new rookie's side.
He answered the call and gave us his all,
And a part of America died."

You go to work every day, not knowing if you’re going to come back at the end of your workday… The people in this country forget that… We elect politicians to create laws that allow criminals to roam the streets freely… It is heartbreaking when a police officer loses his/her life trying to make the country a better place… My heart goes out to Officer McKinney‘s family

Lord Jesus, as we watch America's brave peace officers succumb to the wicked and evil in this world, it becomes difficult for us to pick up and move forward. Our communities are on the brink of exploding with tension. In light of the American Peace Officers who are no longer with us, I pray for endurance for our communities and America's Peace Officers. Carry us through this time of strife, that through our struggles, our bonds may grow even more unbreakable. In Your mighty and holy name, and by Your authority, I pray. Amen.

"And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?" Then I said, "Here am I! Send me." [Isaiah 6:8 ESV]
