I am an Austin resident and the news of this officer's passing saddens me and my family a great deal. Our prayers are with his family, friends, and Jorge's colleagues. It takes a special person to go TO danger. It takes an extremely brave person. Please know you're all in our prayers. Thank you all for your service. That hardly seems like enough to demonstrate our gratitude. Thank you.

**Saluting a Fallen Hero**
I am deeply saddened by the news of the passing of Officer Jorge Pastore, who was killed in the line of duty on November 11, 2023. He was a brave and dedicated officer who served the community with honor and compassion. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
My heart goes out to his wife and his stepsons, I pray that they find comfort and strength in this difficult time. I also thank them for their sacrifice and service. Officer Pastore was a true hero who gave his life to protect others. He will never be forgotten.
I also extend my condolences to the families and friends hostage victims, who were tragically killed by the suspect who held them hostage. They were innocent victims of a senseless act of violence. They deserve our respect and remembrance.
I also want to express my gratitude and appreciation to the Austin Police Department for their everyday sacrifice and service. They put their lives on the line to keep us safe and secure. They are our heroes and protectors. They deserve our support and recognition. I salute you out of respect, appreciation and honor.
