Family, Friends & Fellow Officers Remember...

It's been over 50 years since I last saw you Joe during our DeVry School Days. You got out of the Army and I went in. Years later I couldn't believe that you made it through Vietnam and then shot in Chicago. I'm still shaking my head over this senseless loss of a Good Husband and Father, Soldier, Student, and Police Officer. I am glad I got the opportunity to meet and share some time with you Joe.
I was just telling a guy I know about you. So you see Joe you still live in our Hearts and Minds. You are not forgotten. God Bless You Joe and Your Family.

I was Joe's partner, and I do keep in touch with the family. They have survived, as time does not heal wounds, but makes them survivable. The family was all there when we had a street honoring Joe dedicated in November, 2015. The street is Oxford, from Devon, north to Avondale. There are street signs at every intersection. The naming of the U.S. Post Office on Northwest Highway has been approved by both houses of Congress, and signed into law by the President of the United States. The plaque is being designed now, and the dedication should be some time after Easter, 2017.

Although I didn't know Officer Joseph Cali I remember the incident very well. I was waiting to come on the job at the time. Years later I worked many days and nights on Special Employment at the Henry Horner projects and often thought of Joe. My prayers and well wishes are with the family of Joe. May he rest in peace and always be remembered. I'll honor him at the street sign dedication.

Joe, not much time goes by when I don't think of you. One week before I was working Special Employment and was assigned to your Beat car. I had never worked with either you or your partner Art. Everything I'd heard about you was good. I liked you and Art right off. There were three of us on the car and I remember the joking and laughing. I wrote a "parker" at about the same time and location you were writing yours. When working Special the PO needed to show activity. I was single, you were married, had a child and had just bought a house. Fate isn't ever fair. I'm grateful I had that chance to work with You and Art.

Joey was a good cop, I got to know him back as far as when we were classmates together at Lane Tech.
1975-The senseless murder of Officer Joseph Cali, just doing his job and the result was a column in the newspaper and a slap on the wrist for the murderer.
2014-Ferguson, an officer defends himself from an attack by a criminal and racial polarity causes mass violence.
It is distressing to know that conditions are headed in the wrong direction.

I remember you coming over to our house with my Father who worked with you in 13 when you came on the Job Joe... Your heroism and service is honored today, the 37th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

I will never forget you Joey, you were like a big brother too me! What makes it even worse is they let your killer walk after 11 years. I wonder if the the liberal judge would of made that ruling if it was his son or daughter that was killed.
