Reflections for Chief of Police Anthony Rickerson

Twinkie-Chief-I will forever remember our youth and your undying determination to become a game warden. Little did we know that you would become the Chief of Police. I was and will always be so proud of you. We all miss you so much. I still can’t believe you gained your wings but I know you are watching over everyone. &&& I’m pretty sure heaven has a lot of ketchup! I will watch over your family like you did me as a lil sis. We are so going gigging when I maybe get up there lol…!!! I love you forever brother!! End of watch.

Lord God of unfailing love, to those families in our beloved nation, the United States of America, who are suffering in the wake of the loss of a law enforcement family member, help us to provide support. Allow us to be their rock and fortress in a time of immense pain and uncertainty. Help us to keep them safe and nourished in their time of grief, suffering beside them as we move toward healing and reconciliation. Lord God, in Your compassionate mercy, hear my prayer. In Christ Jesus, Your beloved Son, and by His authority, I pray. Amen.

The true measure of a person
is not found in the
might of their arm,
their wealth
or their power –
it is found in the strength
of their character.

There is no greater testimony to
ones character, than ones
willingness to sacrifice all,
in the noble quest of
providing protection to all
whom they serve.

Only a week before Father's Day. Today will be a very difficult day for his family as it will be for all those who lost fathers in the line of duty. Thank you, Chief, for your long service to your country and community. You wanted to support and reinforce your officers. That shows true leadership in the field, and experience that can't be replaced.

I'm sure my cousin is remembering her awesome father today. After attending the reading of the LODD at the annual ceremony in D.C. in 2001 after my Uncle was killed in the line of duty, I was shocked by the sheer amount of names and places of origins - and this was right before 9/11, before the massive onset of mass shootings, and before the War on Terrorism. Many of the names read that year had served in Vietnam or the First Gulf War, and there were military uniforms of every branch in the thousands and thousands of spectators at the event.

Rest in Eternal Peace, Chief. May you always be remembered by your community, friends, family, and a grateful state and nation. As a fellow Floridian I know the dangers of the roads - especially in the heavily rain-soaked wetlands and reservations all around the state where deer, alligators and other large critters can cause such accidents, especially in the dark.

Rest in Peace brother and watch over us. We will protect and serve from here on in your honor.

I fight not for glory or fame, for they are momentary. I fight for those who can't. I fight for Justice. I fight for the oppressed and the down trodden. And if I should lose my life for these just causes, then I have no regrets, For I serve to protect the innocent. It matters not where or when, for evil knows no boundaries. Be it fire, flood, or the threat of tyranny, I will not flee. Justice is my weapon. Faith is my shield. Hope is my armor. Cry not at my passing, for it was my Honor to fight for you. Shed not tears of sorrow, but tears of joy, for now, I stand with God.
