Friend, brother, leader, presence. Ray you were so many things to us, your friends and co-workers. I have no doubt you held even more amazing qualities that we would have watched grow and spring forth as time went on or even a few you already had for special people in your life, reserved for special places in your heart. All of which were powerful earmarks, of all the things that made you the person we know. For me, all those things best summarize to "presence". You were a moving force of happiness and energy, loved being a teacher and a guider, and humble enough to still seek knowledge and opinions from others.

Smart, confident, directed, humble and destined. You have touched so many lives as a defender of the victims, pursuer of the wicked and leader of those walking in blue-line footsteps behind us. While your list of qualities, accomplishments and successes in life can go on, it is the fact that all of these things were with you when you entered rooms, encountered others and interacted with everyone. You were, a palpable positive "presence".
It was the first thing I felt today when things unfolded and I watched what was happening. A loss of your presence as a friend, a brother and a leader. A hope for outcome different that what was in front of us at the time. I am sorry there was nothing I could do that would change it. I'm sorry I have no means to change time and rewrite history to a different outcome.

As you rest easy my friend and watch over us from up on high, know this: I was wrong, your presence is not gone or even diminished. Every trainee you touched is a part of you, your wife is a reflection of values you shared with her and a testament to your character. Your OCSO family was present in vast numbers at your bedside today, because for each of us, you are family, a brother on the line who gave all in the line of duty.
Take a deep breath and know that the person that took you from us did not escape justice. He will answer for the darkness and evil within him and we will be vigilant against him and others like him who seek violence as a means to an end. We love you my brother, we will all miss you, every day. Forever your friend and brother, rest easy, we have the line from here.

To Corpal Hamilton's family, friends, team mates, and the citizens of Oskaloosa county, I join you in grieving the loss of such a fine young man. More important, I join you in honoring every man and woman in blue who has unselfishly and heroically made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of their communities.

True service knows no boundaries...our state and distinct lines give way one nation under God.

This senseless, Christmas Eve murder flies so sharply and cuttintingly into the face of the spirit of our Nation's most treasured holiday season.

Be someone's blessing,
