Reflections for Police Officer Adam James Webb

Adam webb was an amazing mentor and friend. Adam Webb was a Field Training Officer for the Daytona Beach Police Department during my time there. I came to him, a brand new cop, with the tags still on my uniform. Adam took me under his wing, and turned a completely terrifying situation of learning to do the job, into an awesome growing experience. He fostered an environment where I felt as though I could fail, as long as I was learning. His wisdom, knowledge, and heartfelt human compassion are the reason I am still serving my community today, the reason I’m a great father and husband.

Adam had a rare gift that many law enforcement officers are never able to obtain. Adam was the most down to earth and compassionate person, even while in uniform. He loved people and people loved him. Adam was also able to flip a switch and turn into super cop mode. I remember, my first few weeks with him, we had an offender run from us (Felony Offfender) and began hopping over large fences. Well, my young rookie legs took me over top of those fences after the bad guy. Well, Adam was a large fellow, and he saw his trainee (me) that he was tasked in looking after, disappear over a fence with a potentially dangerous individual. Without a thought, Adam went through 3 fences after me, like the kool-aid man, without a thought. After the call I asked him why he didn’t just run back to the car and drive around looking for me, he told me “For the next few weeks, you’re my family, and you never leave family behind”. Adam thought me how to compassionately teach and mentor, how to love the job, and to never forget you’re still a man behind the uniform.

Adam cared immensely for his family. All he could talk about during my time with him, was his excitement and anticipation of marrying the love of his life. We had that in common, as I had just married mine. I’ve never seen someone so sure of something in my life. We would spend most of our day talking about planning the wedding and talking about our futures with our ladies.

I felt compelled to type this, as I finish my first day of Field Training Officer School. I feel the spirit of who Adam was with me today, reminding me to stay humble, stay compassionate, and always fight for family. Big guy, this one is for you.

We miss you Adam, rest easy. We’ve got it from here.

Most merciful God, You hold each of us dear to Your heart. Hold all America’s Peace Officers and their families, who are afflicted or affected by the COVID-19 Virus, in Your loving arms and tenderly draw them into Your life, together with all others who are living with the COVID-19 Virus. Assure them that they are not alone, and give them courage and faith for all that is to come. Strengthen those who care for them and treat them, and guide those who do research. Forgive those who have judged harshly, and enlighten those who live in prejudice or fear. Nourish those who have lost sight of You, and heal the spirits of those who are broken. We pray this in the mighty and holy name of Jesus Christ, who suffered and died, and then rose from the dead to lead us into new life, now and forever. In Christ Jesus, I pray. Amen.

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons [children] of God.” [Matthew 5:9 ESV]
