Dear Michael:
In addition to the pain your family, the department and the nation are feeling with your death, I can only hope that the lack of prosecution of criminals by present day District Attorneys will bring their rapid removal from office. But enough of that, as they deserve any more recognition on this sacred site.
You answered the call of the wolf at the door and both you and your family now pay the price. Too often, those who live vanilla lives behind closed doors, with private armed security have no clue about what it means to make a sacrifice or to face danger. That's what we, the law enforcement community are all about..keeping folks safe from that.
Rest in peace sir, and know that we will hold the line, thought the line just got a bit thinner.

It sadeness me and rips at my heart seeing another brother officer killed. God bless him and his family. I pray for them all. It angers me to read another predator roaming the streets that should have been behind bars is responsible. I see this in my city of NY and lately everywhere. Rest in Peace my brother. I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.
Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,
Abraham Lincoln
