Reflections for Patrolman David Glen Evans

In the early 90s, when I was a young state trooper in San Antonio, I used to meet David and some other northside SAPD officers for coffee on night shifts. He was hilarious, friendly, and just a great guy to be around. I came across him several times over the years (including getting pulled over by him when I was in narcotics), and he remembered me every time. He was a great officer. Rest in the arms of God, brother.

I remember this shooting. I was still a Police Officer when it happened. After I retired I became a CJ Teacher and would always talk about this shooting in my class as part of my lesson. So sad to hear that he has passed away. God Bless his family and may he rest in peace. #LPDRetired#BackThe Blue#477.

Dave was an incredible Friend and Brother officer. I first met him when I was completing my degree internship prior to starting the Academy. As a new officer to traffic, I rode with him, and ironically, years later, he rode with me on patrol as he transitioned back to patrol from traffic! He always maintained such a great sense of humor and lived by... if life gives you lemons, make lemonade! I am so Blessed to have been his Friend and Brother in Blue.

Dave had no fear... he left us like a hero going home without ever having wept for a little more time to live his life over in a different way. He is, and always will be dearly missed.

Every warrior’s boot used in battle and every garment rolled in blood will be destined for burning, will be fuel for the fire. - Isaiah 9:5

Officer Evans and myself shared the same radar car. He loved life and was a practical joker just like me. He was a delight to be around. I lost contact with him when he left traffic and went back to patrol. He is missed by many here in San Antonio.
Rest in Peace finally my dear friend.

The true measure of a person
is not found in the
might of their arm,
their wealth
or their power –
it is found in the strength
of their character.

There is no greater testimony to
ones character, than ones
willingness to sacrifice all,
in the noble quest of
providing protection to all
whom they serve.

Your love for others and heart to serve was the best of who you were.
David, you never were without a smile and a joke,. Living life without you is difficult, but I promise you will never be forgotten. You have left an imprint in so many lives.
You always said you never let the bad guy win and you proved that to be true by outliving that dreadful shooting by 19 years.
You didn’t let the bad guy win by giving God the glory in you testimony about the shooting. Your family isn’t the same without you here, but we know we have a huge family reunion in heaven to look forward to.
Thank you for serving the city of San Antonio proudly and loving loving your family unconditionally.
