Most merciful God, You hold each of us dear to Your heart. Hold all America’s Peace Officers and their families, who are afflicted or affected by the COVID-19 Virus, in Your loving arms and tenderly draw them into Your life, together with all others who are living with the COVID-19 Virus. Assure them that they are not alone, and give them courage and faith for all that is to come. Strengthen those who care for them and treat them, and guide those who do research. Nourish those who have lost sight of You, and heal the spirits of those who are broken. We pray this in the mighty and holy name of Jesus Christ, who suffered and died, and then rose from the dead to lead us into new life, now and forever. In Christ Jesus, I pray. Amen.
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons [children] of God.” [Matthew 5:9 ESV]
“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” [Psalm 23:4 ESV]

Danny was a committed public servant, and his absence in his ERO community is felt immensely. Danny joined ERO in Jan. 2017 as an enforcement and removal assistant in the ERO Washington field office and was promoted to DO in 2018. As a DO, Danny excelled at his responsibilities within the Criminal Apprehension Program as well as at-large enforcement missions. Danny was always willing to help his co-workers whenever possible.
Danny’s commitment to public service was evident in his previous work as well, including as a corrections officer with the U.S. Bureau of Prisons and a deputy sheriff with the Hamblen County, Tennessee, sheriff’s Office. Danny was also a U.S. Army veteran who served in Afghanistan and Iraq and attained the rank of sergeant.
Outside of work, Danny was a craftsman. His passion for woodworking involved using reclaimed wood to build farmhouse furniture. Danny loved being outdoors, camping and kayaking. At the end of the day, he could often be found on his front porch, stargazing with a glass of iced tea.
Danny cared deeply for his family. He is survived by his mother Lisa, his two adult sons Seth and Ethan, and many other loved ones. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

I am so sorry to learn of the grievous loss of Officer Laughner when he died in the line of duty from Covid. To the Laughner family, fellow officers , and all who call Danny beloved, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support. I hope that you continue to receive that same kind of support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.
This is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Officer Laughner gave to our nation and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on October 1, 2020.
