Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Joshua Lee Pierson

Deputy Sheriff Pierson,
On today, the 2nd anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice-not just as a Law Enforcement Officer but for our Country as well when you served with the U.S. Army in Afghanistan nd Kosovo. And to your Family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.

There are few that are as special as Josh Pierson was. I met him before I came to BCSO, he seemed to be a regular face on FD Suicidal calls for the FD I volunteered with. He was always direct with people but also showed a wonderful servant heart with the humility he showed to people in their hour of need. He even went that extra mile and checked in with people he responded to, making sure they were doing what they needed, and getting the help they needed.
After he moved to the Judicial Division, he always had a smile on his face and his servant heart was just as strong as ever. The last time I saw him, which was not long before he got sick, he was wearing that same smile - it's a wonderful last image of him to have!
I think we were all in shock when we got the news that he had been hospitalized for Covid19 and how he was deteriorating quickly. I'm pretty sure everyone was affected by it. It seemed everyone was praying for him and asking for a miracle. I guess God has other plans for Josh though, probably big plans - that's my hope at least.

If I had to sum Josh Pierson up in one sentence, I would say he was a man full of integrity, with a big kind heart, who loved his children and his family, and always found time for those in need.

He was definitely one of the good guys, and he will always be missed.

Most merciful God, You hold each of us dear to Your heart. Hold all our nation’s law enforcement officers and their families, who are afflicted or affected by the COVID-19 Virus, in Your loving arms and tenderly draw them into Your life, together with all others who are living with the COVID-19 Virus. Assure them that they are not alone, and give them courage and faith for all that is to come. Strengthen those who care for them and treat them, and guide those who do research. Forgive those who have judged harshly, and enlighten those who live in prejudice or fear. Nourish those who have lost sight of You, and heal the spirits of those who are broken. We pray this in the mighty and holy name of Jesus Christ, who suffered and died, and then rose from the dead to lead us into new life, now and forever. In Christ Jesus, I pray. Amen.

“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” [Psalm 23:4 ESV]

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons [and daughters] of God.” [Matthew 5:9 ESV]
