Val,
Your smile and positive demeanor are sorely missed. You were taken away from us way to soon. Coming to work is not the same without you here with us. Rest in peace my friend. You will be in our thoughts always.

Val was a correctional
Officer when I was a Deputy Sheriff at the Santa Cruz Sheriff’s Office. We became great friends and stayed in touch for many years. He was a great guy always full of joy and jokes. Rip my friend, I still can’t believe he is gone.

I worked with Val for several years while we were both correctional officers for Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office. He was a great friend. Fast to deescalate problems, compassionate but firm with the inmates, quick to smile and find the humor in difficult situations, it was no surprise that all the officers were happy to have him as a partner. I remember the day he told me he applied for LAPD. He was so excited and kept showing me all the pictures on the department's website. He frequently talked about his family and how much he enjoyed visiting them. Knowing how much he always talked about his family, I have no doubt that he will always love his partner and twins from up above and will always watch over them. Val was a great man, an excellent officer and a close friend.

Most merciful God, You hold each of us dear to Your heart. Hold all our nation’s law enforcement officers and their families, who are afflicted or affected by the COVID-19 Virus, in Your loving arms and tenderly draw them into Your life, together with all others who are living with the COVID-19 Virus. Assure them that they are not alone, and give them courage and faith for all that is to come. Strengthen those who care for them and treat them, and guide those who do research. Forgive those who have judged harshly, and enlighten those who live in prejudice or fear. Nourish those who have lost sight of You, and heal the spirits of those who are broken. We pray this in the mighty and holy name of Jesus Christ, who suffered and died, and then rose from the dead to lead us into new life, now and forever. In Christ Jesus, I pray. Amen.
“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” [Psalm 23:4 ESV]
