As a current member of the NYPD I don’t think anyone will forget where they were and what they were doing on this bloody day . I was a recruit in the academy and it was a Friday we had our driving course that day and it was blistering cold . I come home to rest only to hear what was going on . That following Monday you can feel the depression in the academy and some instructors who actually trained those young men . May they rest forever

The true measure of a person
is not found in the
might of their arm,
their wealth
or their power –
it is found in the strength
of their character.
There is no greater testimony to
ones character, than ones
willingness to sacrifice all,
in the noble quest of
providing protection to all
whom they serve.

Detective Rivera, I have been feeling very sad upon hearing about what happened to you and your partner. Both of you were very young and very brave. I am so very sorry that both of you fell victim to that very violent perpetrator. Both of you deserved to be treated with the highest of respect at all times.
Detective Rivera, you had a wonderful smile and a heart of gold. Your life had meaning to the people that loved you, your friends, coworkers and thousands who never met you. You had dreams, and I am so sorry that you didn’t live long enough to see them fulfilled. Rest peacefully now, in the Kingdom of Heaven. God loves you.
