Lord Jesus, as we watch our brave law enforcement officers succumb to the wicked and evil in this world, it becomes difficult for us to pick up and move forward. Our communities are on the brink of exploding with tension. In light of the law enforcement officers who are no longer with us, I pray for endurance for our communities and law enforcement agencies. Carry us, Lord Jesus, through this time of strife, that through our struggles, our bonds may grow even more unbreakable. In Your mighty and holy name, I pray. Amen.
“Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” [John 15:13 ESV]
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons [children] of God.” [Matthew 5:9 ESV]
“And he [Jesus] said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.” [Luke 23:43 ESV]

I went to the Police Academy with several Mesquite Police Officers and Richard Houston was one of them. I knew Richard would become an outstanding Police Officer and leader from getting to know him from the Academy and it is heartbreaking to hear that he lost his life in a senseless act of violence. Richard gave the ultimate sacrifice in protecting and serving his community and that will never be forgotten. My prayers are with his family and with my brothers and sisters at the Mesquite Police Department

Richard, joining the department on the same day kept us connected in a way that most won’t understand! We were the same age and graduated high school the same year, many miles apart. Then promoting to CID near the same time to the same unit kept us further connected. Many days and nights spent together through good and bad. You and Johnny were so close and I envied the brotherhood y’all shared. If any one of us ever needed a cover unit or just a routine cover, there you would be, no questions! What a warrior and true hero! One thing I learned from you over the years is how strong and faithful you were. There is no doubt in my mind that you are rejoicing in heaven with your dad and the almighty!
