To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 78th anniversary year of your death. I am priviliged to be among the first to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

I just was doing research on ancestry.com and I found out this is my Great Uncle. I knew he died in the line of duty but I didnt know how. I am not sure of his date of birth because on ancestry it shows he was born approx 1907. One of 2 things the dates are off on ancestry because I am receiving conflicting dates or he lied about his age to become an officer.

I said a little prayer today for Patrolman Burns and his family. He may be gone but never forgotten. He will always be a New York HERO.

I was assigned to the Fifth Precinct from 7/84 to 10/02. Approximately 8 years ago, Officer Angel Morales, 5th Pct, discovered that Patrolman Burns assigned to the 5th Pct., died resulting from a fall while investigating an open door, located on Grand St. in the confines of the 5th Pct. There was no plaque in your honor in the precinct. Myself and PO Morales ordered a plaque with your name, shield and date of incident as soon after this discovery. Captain Spataro, CO 5th Pct, made a presentation and dedication in your honor and a mistake was corrected. You will not be forgotten, R.I.P. Patrolman.
