A police officer should be remembered not by how he died but how he lived! A great man has gone to secure a safe path for the rest of us to follow. Thank you to you, your family and the Columbus Police Department . Our country is a little less safe without you. Rest in Peace Brother!

On behalf of the Ohio Attorneys General Bureau of Criminal Identification & Investigation, our thoughts and prayers are with the immediate family of Sergeant Richard A. McMahan and the extended law enforcement family of the Columbus Police Department, Georgia.
End of Watch Monday, September 27, 2021.
Rest in Peace brother and watch over us. We will protect and serve from here on in your honor.
I fight not for glory or fame, for they are momentary. I fight for those who can't. I fight for Justice. I fight for the oppressed and the down trodden. And if I should lose my life for these just causes, then I have no regrets, For I serve to protect the innocent. It matters not where or when, for evil knows no boundaries. Be it fire, flood, or the threat of tyranny, I will not flee. Justice is my weapon. Faith is my shield. Hope is my armor. Cry not at my passing, for it was my Honor to fight for you. Shed not tears of sorrow, But tears of joy, for now, I stand with God.

“We in this world today…Shall be remembered…We few…We happy few…We Band of Brothers…For he today who willingly sheds his blood with me…Shall be…My Brother…Lest ye say it proudly…We are but warriors for the working day.” Shakespeare
It is with a sad heart that I learn of the passing of my Brother in blue. We served together for over 32 years and he represented CPD with much pride. He always greeted me with a smile and had such a calm demeanor about himself. Go rest high on that mountain Ric, your tasks here on earth is done. On behalf of my wife and self, we extend our deepest sympathies to Pat and family. No hesitation on my part in knowing that I will see you again with my other Brothers in Blue walking those glorious streets of gold. When you see Keith and David tell’em I’m still flying high….

Lord God of unfailing love, to those families who are suffering in the wake of the loss of a law enforcement family member, help us to provide support. Allow us to be their rock and fortress in a time of immense pain and uncertainty. Help us to keep them safe and nourished in their time of grief, suffering beside them as we move toward healing and reconciliation. Lord God, in Your compassionate mercy, hear my prayer. In Christ Jesus, Your beloved Son, I pray. Amen.
